Mr. Ha Duc Tang, Head of the Front Work Committee, a prestigious person in Pac Cap village, Phu Luu commune, is the first household to invest over 2 billion VND in tourism . He has mobilized 3 other households to invest over 1 billion VND each to build homestays and persuade people to bring cultural activities to serve tourists.
Currently, the village has established an art troupe with 35 members, an ethnic sports club with 22 members, 20 households registered to weave rattan and bamboo products as souvenirs, 3 households renovated ponds for fishing services, 5 households registered to renovate fruit gardens, 6 households grow vegetables, 5 households raise local specialties of livestock and poultry to serve tourists to visit and experience.
Pac Cap village has 65 households, 319 people, 99% of whom are Tay ethnic people. Currently, the village has no poor households, and the average income per capita in 2023 will reach 4.7 million VND/person/month. Pac Cap has been recognized as a model New Rural village thanks to the efforts of the people to improve through tourism activities.
In recent years, Ham Yen has considered preserving and promoting culture as a lever for tourism development. The district has paid special attention to building models of teams and clubs for folk cultural activities in villages and hamlets of ethnic minorities in the area.
Ham Yen District Culture, Sports and Tourism Center has advised the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Tuyen Quang , Ham Yen District People's Committee and specialized units to increase resources, integrate and effectively use support funds from National Target Programs, to have funds to improve the quality of activities of ethnic folk culture clubs and teams associated with tourism development.
Ham Yen District Department of Culture and Information, from 2023 to now, has established 8 more folk culture clubs, bringing the total number of folk culture teams and clubs in villages and hamlets to 24, with an average of 25-30 members per club. Active clubs include: Mong ethnic folk culture club in Minh Tien village 8, Minh Huong commune and Ngoi Sen village folk song and dance club, Yen Lam commune; Cao Lan Sinh ca singing club in Thanh Long commune; Then singing club, Tinh lute of Tay ethnic group in Nhan Muc commune...
On that basis, Ham Yen district has focused on providing financial support for typical folk cultural clubs and teams. Increasing financial support to help artisans and clubs carry out teaching, purchase equipment, props and participate in festival activities, performances, competitions, exchanges, etc. At the same time, organizing training courses to improve the quality of activities of clubs and art teams and organizing training to learn from the experiences of club models with a long history of achievements and quality activities.
A typical example is the Mong ethnic folk culture club in Minh Tien village 8, Minh Huong commune. Established in 2023 with 25 members, it has so far attracted 32 members. Mr. Hoang Van Thanh, Chairman of the club, shared: “We directly teach folk songs, folk dances, Mong flute dances, and embroidery on traditional ethnic costumes. The club regularly meets, and the quality of its activities is increasingly improved, thereby receiving more appreciation and attention from specialized departments at the district and provincial levels. The club has been invited to participate in many exchange activities and competitions inside and outside the district, attracting a large number of tourists and contributing to the development of community tourism in the locality”.
Ham Yen focuses on improving knowledge and professional skills for cadres working in grassroots cultural work; increasing the level of cultural enjoyment and creativity for ethnic minority communities; preserving and promoting traditional cultural beauty; eliminating backward customs and practices, implementing civilized lifestyles in weddings and funerals towards building a civilized lifestyle and a healthy cultural environment; skills in implementing and building community cultural activity models in villages and hamlets; building traditional art troupes associated with tourism development.
Currently, Ham Yen district has over 30 tourist accommodation establishments with over 400 rooms, of which 3 establishments meet 1-star hotel standards; over 25 accommodation establishments meet motel standards; there are over 25 restaurants with a scale of 15 tables or more. In 2023, the district welcomed 115,000 visitors. In the work of preserving traditional cultural values of ethnic minorities associated with tourism development, Ham Yen has been gradually affirming its position.
