On October 24, at a meeting to exchange information about new flight routes with agents in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Leulseged Desalegn - representative director of Ethiopian Airlines in Vietnam - said that although it has just established a direct flight route in Vietnam, the airline is aiming to further expand its operations in this country, increase flight frequency, and bring more flexibility and choices to passengers.
Officially launching the Addis Ababa - Hanoi route from July 2025, Ethiopian Airlines is currently operating four flights a week using Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft. In addition, the airline also operates one cargo flight per week between the two cities.
According to Mr. Leulseged Desalegn, the first direct flight connecting Vietnam and Africa is opening up many opportunities for trade, tourism, and labor cooperation between Vietnam and countries around the world .
"Vietnam is one of the newest destinations to join our global network. Our operations are not just about flights, but also the key to opening up new opportunities, strengthening the connection between Vietnam and our global network spanning across Africa, Europe, America and the Middle East," said Mr. Leulseged Desalegn.
Like other destinations, Ethiopia tourism is divided into high and low seasons corresponding to different pricing policies. Opening direct flights helps Vietnamese passengers save a significant amount of travel time compared to before, instead of connecting flights through Bangkok, Singapore or Dubai.
In addition, Ethiopian Airlines is also a new choice for Vietnamese passengers transiting to Europe and America with only one stop.
Established in 1945, Ethiopian Airlines is now an 80-year-old airline with a wide network of 145 international destinations and 22 domestic destinations.
Interestingly, although it has a population of more than 113 million people and a fairly low per capita income, Ethiopian Airlines is considered a major airline in the world.
Ethiopian Airlines currently operates a network of more than 145 international destinations and 22 domestic destinations, owning a fleet of over 160 aircraft with an average age of 7 years. The airline has been voted "Best Airline in Africa" by Skytrax for many years in a row.
