During their working visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Da Nang City delegation, led by Chairman of the City People's Committee Le Trung Chinh, visited and held discussions with Emirates Airlines.

According to Ms. Truong Thi Hong Hanh, Director of the Da Nang City Department of Tourism, at the meeting, the two sides exchanged information on aviation infrastructure and the recovery of Da Nang's aviation and tourism industries after Covid-19, as well as plans to boost promotion and connectivity of the city's aviation industry to the region and the world .

Da Nang city leaders have pledged to support and create the best possible conditions for Emirates Airlines to open a flight route to Da Nang.

This is the world's largest airline, specializing in long-haul routes connecting Dubai, the aviation hub, with 152 destinations in 85 countries; it has also won the "World's Best Airline" award nine times in a row. Currently, Emirates operates daily round-trip flights from Dubai to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.

During the meeting, Mr. Le Trung Chinh introduced the potential and advantages of Da Nang as a gateway to world heritage sites such as Hoi An ancient town, Hue imperial city, My Son sanctuary, Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, and the Marble Mountains, a world documentary heritage site.

Da Nang is also a destination that hosts many regional and international events such as the APEC High-Level Week 2017, the Routes Asia 2022 forum, and the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival...

The city has also been highly rated as a destination, receiving awards such as "Asia's Leading Event and Festival Destination" in 2022 from the World Travel Awards; Top 3 Best Cities in Southeast Asia in 2022 from Travel + Leisure magazine; and My Khe Beach being among the top 10 most beautiful beaches in Asia in 2023 from TripAdvisor.

"The city hopes that Emirates Airlines will open a direct flight route between Da Nang and Dubai to facilitate investment by UAE businesses in Da Nang," said Mr. Le Trung Chinh.

Welcoming the delegation from Da Nang City, Mr. Orhan Abbas, Senior Vice President for the Far East and Commercial Division of Emirates Airlines, said that the airline highly appreciates the efficiency of flights to major cities in Vietnam, especially given the increased travel demand after Covid-19.

The airline is interested in and considers the possibility of establishing a flight connection to Da Nang, but more information is needed regarding infrastructure, aviation capacity, and the market.

Speaking to Emirates Airlines, Mr. Le Trung Chinh affirmed that the city's leaders and the tourism industry always create the best conditions and provide support for opening flight routes to Da Nang City.

Initially, Da Nang City will promote the destination on Emirates' channels to increase brand awareness of Da Nang among the airline's customers; and organize promotional delegations from European, North American, and Middle Eastern markets to Da Nang on Emirates flights.

Events to welcome the new flight, free brand promotion at the airport, and other media activities were also included in the plan.

Thanh Nien Newspaper organizes the seminar "Opening visas, reviving tourism"

Despite being one of the first countries in Southeast Asia to reopen after the Covid-19 pandemic, Vietnam has the lowest tourism recovery rate compared to other countries in the region.

According to VisaGuide.World, published at the end of 2022, Vietnam's tourism recovery rate is currently only 18.1%, while neighboring countries such as Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Cambodia have achieved rates ranging from 26% to 31%. A major reason is that the number of international tourists, a crucial group for Vietnam's tourism industry, has not met expectations. As evidence, in the three years before the Covid-19 pandemic, the average number of international tourists to Vietnam was only one-fifth of the number of domestic tourists, yet they contributed approximately 58% of total tourism revenue.

In 2022, we aimed to attract 5 million international tourists but only achieved 3.5 million. In 2023, Vietnam planned to attract 8 million international tourists, but this target is facing significant challenges as China added Vietnam to its list of countries requiring group visas later than expected. One of the reasons why Vietnam opened its borders early but received fewer international visitors than its neighbors is related to visa issues.

To revive the struggling tourism, aviation, accommodation, and service industries, and to restore tourism, a key economic sector of the country, Thanh Nien Newspaper will organize a seminar titled "Opening Visas, Restoring Tourism" at 8:30 AM on March 10th. The seminar will be attended by leaders of relevant state agencies, experts, and leading businesses in the tourism, service, and aviation sectors in Vietnam. The goal of the seminar is to propose solutions and recommendations to attract international tourists, thereby restoring tourism and contributing to the country's economic growth.
