The People's Committee of Da Lat City (Lam Dong province) has requested relevant authorities to terminate and liquidate the Pedalo (pedal boat) service business contracts with enterprises providing this service at Xuan Huong Lake and Da Thien 3 Lake.

According to information obtained by reporters on November 3rd, the Da Lat City People's Committee requested the Da Lat Center for Investment Management and Exploitation of Irrigation Works to terminate and liquidate the contract for pedal boat services with the Lam Dong Tourism Joint Stock Company branch on Xuan Huong Lake, as it did not meet the conditions to continue operating.

According to the Da Lat City People's Committee, the pedal boat rental business on Xuan Huong Lake has been established for a long time, with many historical and historical factors. It is also an iconic part of Xuan Huong Lake for tourists visiting Da Lat City, and provides recreational services for both local residents and visitors.

Currently, there are three organizations/individuals operating pedal boat services on Xuan Huong Lake within the 38-hectare lake surface area: the Lam Dong Tourism Joint Stock Company Branch (in the Thuy Ta restaurant area); Da Lat Urban Services Joint Stock Company; and the business owner Nguyen Tran Anh Duy, with a total of 95 pedal boats and 3 rescue boats.

However, this type of service must be conducted in accordance with the 2017 Irrigation Law. According to our findings, in June 2019, the Lam Dong Tourism Joint Stock Company branch submitted an application for a license to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lam Dong province, but has not yet been granted permission to operate.

According to a reporter from Dan Viet newspaper, the mooring points for pedal boats operated by businesses and individuals on Xuan Huong Lake have announced a temporary suspension of operations while awaiting permits from the authorities. Therefore, the image of pedal boats being used by tourists to explore Xuan Huong Lake for the past 30 years is now gone. Many people express regret and a sense of loss when visiting Da Lat City.

Mr. Viet Niem (a tourist from Da Nang ) said: "I often see tourists coming to Da Lat to enjoy the fresh air in the heart of the mountain city. This service has not caused any problems affecting the safety of tourists. Moreover, this is a familiar part of Da Lat for the past few decades. Therefore, if possible, it should be licensed to operate again."

Not only at Xuan Huong Lake, but also at Da Thien 3 Lake (Ward 8, Da Lat City), the City People's Committee has instructed the Da Lat Center for Investment Management and Exploitation of Irrigation Works to terminate and liquidate the contract for the pedal boat service of Thanh Thanh Cong Lam Dong Tourism Co., Ltd.
