"Semester in the Army" - A Growing-Up Experience for Children

(CTO) - The "Semester in the Army" program organized annually by the City Youth Union and the Can Tho City Military Command has become a useful and meaningful playground for children every summer. Not only is it a physical training course, the program also helps children learn to live independently, know how to share and understand the value of labor, discipline and responsibility in the military environment.

In 2025, the program will organize 2 classes (each class has 100 soldiers) for students aged 9-15 in provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta region. The first class of the program will take place over 10 days (from June 27 to July 6). Students will learn about the traditions of the Vietnam People's Army; be trained in how to arrange military equipment; survival skills, skills to prevent abuse and school violence; practice bare-handed exercises and 16 martial arts movements; play sports; participate in group games, learn to sing, dance folk dances... This is the 15th time the program has been organized to arouse andeducate patriotism and national pride, contributing to raising the responsibility of the young generation towards the Fatherland.

Immediately after the departure ceremony, 100 "child" soldiers of the first class of the program began moving to the program location at Infantry Regiment 932 (Cai Rang Ward, Can Tho City). Reporters of Can Tho Newspaper and Radio and Television recorded some images:

The "young" soldiers visited the President Ho Chi Minh Monument (at Ninh Kieu Wharf) before leaving for the "Semester in the Army" program.

Children burn incense to commemorate Uncle Ho's merits.

Leaders of Can Tho City Military Command, Can Tho City Youth Union and some departments and branches joined hands to encourage children to participate in the program.

By participating in the "Semester in the Army" program, students live and work like real soldiers to help them better understand discipline, team spirit and responsibility in the military environment.

The "young" soldiers visited and learned about Regiment 917 stationed in Thoi An Dong ward, Can Tho city.

A group performance by children participating in the "Semester in the Army" program at the exchange with officers and soldiers of Regiment 917.

A meal of the "child" soldiers in the barracks at Infantry Regiment 932 (Cai Rang ward, Can Tho city).

Just on the first day of participating in the program, the children knew how to arrange mosquito nets and blankets neatly and were independent in their personal activities.
