Ministerial Conference of the Mekong Sub-region Countries on the Implementation of the ASEAN Agreement: Towards a Community with a Clean Environment and Sustainable Development

On November 30, in Nha Trang City (Khanh Hoa Province), the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development coordinated with relevant parties to organize the 12th Ministerial Conference of the Mekong Sub-region countries implementing the ASEAN Agreement (12th) on Transboundary Haze Pollution.

The conference was attended by ministerial-level leaders from five Mekong countries, including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. The conference was also attended by Mr. Ekkaphab Phanthavong, Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for Culture and Society.

At the conference, representatives of delegations shared knowledge and experience, discussed solutions, and made important decisions related to forest fire and peatland fire management as well as smoke and dust pollution management and control in the Mekong sub-region countries in particular and the ASEAN community in general, towards a haze-free ASEAN.

Conference overview

Speaking at the conference, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Nguyen Quoc Tri affirmed that Vietnam is committed to devoting all necessary resources to effectively carry out activities on sustainable forest management, protection and development of forest resources, in which forest fire prevention and fighting is always a top concern. At the same time, Vietnam calls for comprehensive cooperation from the Mekong sub-region countries, the joint efforts of donors and international organizations to work together for an ASEAN community with a clean environment and sustainable development.
