According to Bernama news agency , the conference was attended by Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah, Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh , Chinese Prime Minister Li Cuong, Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Lao Prime Minister Sonexay Siphandone, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, Timor-Leste Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.
Also present were Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono, Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun, Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi Toshimitsu and Myanmar Foreign Ministry Permanent Secretary Hau Khan Sum.
In addition, Prime Minister Anwar welcomed Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and South African President Matamela Cyril Ramaphosa as guests. Mr. Anwar appreciated both leaders for their commitment to multilateralism.
Speaking at the EAS, which coincided with its 20th anniversary, the Malaysian leader noted that the EAS was established to be a platform for strategic, political and economic dialogue, with ASEAN as the driving force. Today, the EAS must reaffirm its common purpose, promote principled commitments and look to the future.
On global and regional issues, Mr. Anwar welcomed the recent comprehensive plan to end the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
Referring to Myanmar, Mr. Anwar said that ASEAN reaffirmed its commitment to the Five-Point Consensus. Malaysia has been actively cooperating with all parties to promote peace and humanitarian relief.
Regarding the South China Sea, Prime Minister Anwar said that Malaysia welcomes the ongoing efforts to develop a Code of Conduct in the South China Sea (COC). All parties should continue to adhere to the widely recognized principles of international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
At the conference, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul proposed three main pillars, namely financial security, digital security and human security, to promote ASEAN cooperation and strengthen partnerships between ASEAN and partners in the East Asia region.
Also at the conference, Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun affirmed that he will strengthen cooperation with Southeast Asian countries and the international community to deal with transnational crimes that are currently increasing in the region, especially online fraud.
Participating countries also expressed concern about the growing threat from online fraud and other cybercrimes, stressing the need for coordinated efforts at the regional level.
In addition, Foreign Minister Cho Hyun explained South Korea's peace initiatives toward North Korea, calling for the restoration of exchanges and improved relations with Pyongyang, and asked EAS members to support these efforts.
The EAS adopted the Kuala Lumpur Declaration on the 20th Anniversary of the EAS and the EAS Statement on Promoting Localisation in Disaster Preparedness and Response, contributing to consolidating the foundation of EAS's strategic cooperation in the new development stage, towards a peaceful, stable, sustainable and prosperous region.
