(BD) - On the afternoon of April 26th, in Quy Nhon City, the Standing Committee of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee held a conference to implement the Central Government's policy on merging provincial-level administrative units.
The conference was chaired by comrades: Ho Quoc Dung - Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council of Binh Dinh; and Ho Van Nien - Member of the Central Committee of the Party, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council of Gia Lai.

Also attending the working session, on the Binh Dinh province side were: Mr. Le Kim Toan - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Mr. Pham Anh Tuan - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; and other members of the Standing Committee of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee.

At the conference, the Chairman of the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, Pham Anh Tuan, provided preliminary information on the plan for rearranging the administrative units of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces. Accordingly, the new Gia Lai province, after the merger of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces, will have an area of 21,576.5 km², a population of nearly 3.6 million people, and is expected to have 135 commune-level administrative units (including 110 communes and 25 wards). The political and administrative center of the new Gia Lai province is expected to be located in Quy Nhon City (currently in Binh Dinh province).

At the conference, the Standing Committee of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee and the Standing Committee of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee discussed and gave opinions on the plan for rearranging administrative units in Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces, the principles for organizing the apparatus and assigning cadres, establishing a Steering Committee for the merger of Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces, and establishing subcommittees to serve the new Gia Lai Provincial Party Congress.

Speaking at the conference, the Secretary of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee, Ho Quoc Dung, and the Secretary of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee, Ho Van Nien, provided further information: This was the second working session between the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of the two provinces; a previous working session between the two Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees took place in Gia Lai. The Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of the two localities exchanged views and reached a high level of consensus on the contents presented at this conference.

Speaking at the meeting, the Secretary of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee, Ho Quoc Dung, stated that the merger of the two provinces is a major policy of the Central Government, aimed at creating new development spaces, providing better impetus, and establishing new growth poles in socio-economic development. The reorganization of the administrative apparatus and the assignment of personnel to ensure the new system operates effectively and efficiently immediately after the merger are in line with the Central Government's policy, ensuring that the reorganization fosters unity, consensus, and creates new strength and momentum for development.

Based on the results of the Conference, the Standing Committees of the Provincial Party Committees of the two provinces will direct the relevant agencies of the two localities to closely coordinate to finalize the Plan for the reorganization of administrative units in Gia Lai and Binh Dinh provinces and submit it to the Central Government before May 1, 2025. At the same time, they will reach a consensus on the principles of organizational restructuring and personnel assignments to report to the Central Government. This will ensure that the new administrative apparatus after the merger of the two provinces will operate effectively and efficiently, fostering unity and creating new momentum, enthusiasm, and strength to drive the (new) Gia Lai province to develop rapidly and become a new growth pole of the country.
