The program was organized by Dong Nai Newspaper and Radio and Television, the Provincial Association for the Support of Disabled People, Orphans, and Poor Patients, in collaboration with Nhat Advertising Joint Stock Company ( Ho Chi Minh City). Tan Phuoc Khanh Steel Company was the main sponsor. Representatives from Binh Tan commune government, clubs, charitable groups, philanthropists, and villagers came to share their support with the family.
Ms. Thuong is a hired rubber tapper at the plantation, and her husband, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Chien (50 years old), is a freelance worker. Due to difficult circumstances, their eldest son, Nguyen Duy Truong (20 years old), had to drop out of school in the 9th grade to work and help support the family, so that his younger brother could continue his education.

Before the hardships were over, tragedy struck. In September 2025, Truong contracted dengue fever. During a thorough examination, doctors discovered he had end-stage chronic kidney failure, along with heart failure and ischemic heart disease. Unable to bear seeing her son require dialysis 2-3 times a week, Ms. Thuong decided to donate one of her kidneys so her son could live.
However, the cost of the transplant, post-operative care, and anti-rejection medication amounted to over 1 billion VND. This is an enormous sum, far beyond the means of a poor working-class family. The family has tried everything, borrowing from everywhere, exhausting all their resources, even selling their house, but the amount is still insufficient.
Immediately after the survey, the "Aspiration for Life" program launched a fundraising campaign and received support from organizations, individuals, and philanthropists. With a total of 178.8 million VND in assistance, the program organizers agreed to allocate the funds as follows: 18.8 million VND will be used for the family to undergo necessary tests and prepare urgently for the kidney transplant. The remaining 160 million VND will be deposited into a savings account under the name of Ms. Ngo Thi Thuong. This money will be managed by the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Binh Tan commune, ensuring its proper use: directly paying for the kidney transplant surgery.
“In a life-or-death situation, when all hope seemed lost, my child and I received timely assistance from the program and generous donors. This wasn't just financial support, but a chance at life, a rebirth for my child. Our whole family will forever be grateful to the program and all the generous donors,” said Ms. Thuong, her voice choked with tears.
Timely assistance not only saved a life but also served as a vivid testament to the compassionate and benevolent "Aspiration for Life" program, which promptly helps the poor to recover. Concluding its 17th year, the humanitarian television program "Aspiration for Life" will continue to spread the spirit of sharing in its 18th year (2026) with the commitment "Together we hold hands, together we serve."
