News Central TV channel reported that on January 1, Honduran President Xiomara Castro warned that in the face of Trump's unfriendly actions regarding the deportation of immigrants, Tegucigalpa would review cooperation agreements with Washington, especially in the military field.

According to the leftist leader, if the US proceeds with the deportation of Honduran immigrants, the US military base in the country will no longer have any reason to continue to exist. The US has operated the Palmerola military base in Comayagua, central Honduras, since the 1980s.

Noting the significant contributions of Honduran migrants to the US economy , President Castro expressed hope that the new administration led by Mr. Trump would adopt a more constructive and friendly approach, refraining from imposing sanctions on these people.

As the current president of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States, President Castro has announced plans to convene a meeting of foreign ministers with his Mexican counterpart Claudia Sheinbaum in January to address the urgent issue of migration.

According to Honduran Deputy Foreign Minister Tony García, about 250,000 Honduran immigrants are currently on the US government's deportation list for 2025, while Tegucigalpa is not prepared to receive them.

In addition, hundreds of thousands of immigrants from Mexico and other Latin American countries are in similar situations.

According to statistics from the Honduran government, there are currently about 2 million Hondurans living and working in the US, sending home an amount of remittances each year equivalent to 25% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of this country of 11.6 million people.
