With the message "Advancing the Intelligent World ," Huawei brought hands-on experience with commercialized 5.5G applications and essential AI devices for the mobile AI era to the Mobile World Congress (MWC Shanghai) 2024.
In addition, Huawei also announced that it had reached six agreements with leading 5.5G carriers around the world; and presented joint initiatives on developing high-quality mobile video in the AI era during discussions with carriers, partners, and experts at the event.
Mr. David Wang, CEO and Chairman of the ICT Infrastructure Board of Huawei, delivered a keynote speech titled "Accelerating 5.5G Network Development and Shaping the Mobile AI Era." Mr. Wang emphasized: “April 2024 marks the 5th anniversary of 5G commercialization in China. Over the past half-decade, 5G commercialization has achieved significant success, creating a powerful impact on the global mobile industry. 2024 continues to mark the beginning of the mobile AI era by accelerating the commercialization of 5.5G and AI-integrated devices.”
Globally, there are now over 1.8 billion 5G users, and network operators have leveraged the advantages of 5G and applied it to various fields. Services such as New Calling, Cloud Phones, and Glasses-free 3D place higher demands on networks, requiring faster speeds and lower latency. In terms of industrial services, the RedCap ecosystem has also developed significantly; passive IoT has been upgraded to be ready for broader market applications; and Internet of Vehicles (IoV) applications require higher uplink speeds.
Leading global carriers are seeking to capitalize on the benefits of 5.5G. Over 30 carriers have completed the technical validation and testing process for 5.5G networks. Nearly 20 smartphone models on the market already support multi-network integration, with many models having this feature pre-installed. In addition, approximately 10 carriers have announced plans to commercialize 5.5G, including launching 5.5G network packages along with related services. Many carriers in the Middle East and China have begun deploying 5.5G 3-carrier composite networks (3CC) with downlink speeds reaching 5 Gbit/s, and numerous carriers are introducing business models based on 5.5G networks.
