DTO - Chau Thanh - a land imbued with the sacred spirit of the Mekong River has engraved in the golden pages of national history brilliant milestones in the resistance war against the US to save the country. This place, with its resilient spirit and passionate patriotism, has produced heroic sons, contributing to the historic victory in the Spring of 1975.

On July 19, 2023, authorized by the Prime Minister, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Le Minh Hoan (now Vice Chairman of the National Assembly) presented the Decision recognizing Chau Thanh district as meeting the standards of a new rural district.

50 years after the country's complete liberation, Chau Thanh is not only proud of its glorious past but also has risen strongly, demonstrating the miraculous changes in the revolutionary homeland...

Heroic land in the resistance war

Chau Thanh is a locality located between Sa Dec City and Vinh Long Province (formerly Vinh Long Town and Sa Dec), surrounded by National Highway 4, Highway 80, My Thuan North Wharf and the corridor connecting the East and the West. This place used to be the leadership base of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Military Command during the years of resistance against the US to save the country. Starting from this important location, during the war years, the enemy always focused all tricks and means to "wipe out the revolution", pushing our leadership out of this area to establish a clamping system, connecting the two towns (old) and the religious area along the Hau River.

During the revolutionary periods, the most fierce was when we gathered troops and prepared for the day of liberation of the South. Through many illegal and public forms, especially in weak areas and religious areas, we built a base to lead the masses to fight against the enemy. Many communes in the district and Party cells were wiped out 3 times, cadres in charge of communes and districts, dozens of comrades sacrificed bravely and were imprisoned and brutally tortured by the enemy but still maintained the spirit of a Communist. The people devoted their lives and property to the great cause, many families had 5-6 people (husband and children) who were martyrs...

The spirit of cooperation and association is clearly demonstrated by farmers in Chau Thanh district through the model of association halls and cooperatives.

The noble sacrifices and great contributions of Chau Thanh people in the resistance war for national liberation have been respectfully recognized and honored by the Party and State of Vietnam with noble awards. The proud title of "Hero of the People's Armed Forces" was awarded to all the people and armed forces of the district. Along with that, 6 heroic communes were honored: Phu Huu, Hoa Tan, An Khanh, Tan Nhuan Dong, Phu Long, An Phu Thuan; officers and soldiers of the District Security Department (District Police) - loyal children and 6 typical individuals who have made their homeland famous.

This is not only a deep pride, spreading in the hearts of every Chau Thanh resident, but also a shining symbol of the indomitable and resilient spirit of the entire Dong Thap province. Every inch of land here, from the green fields to the peaceful canals, is soaked with the blood and bones of many outstanding children who fell for the independence and sacred freedom of the Fatherland.

Traffic works in Chau Thanh district were built with the consensus and joint efforts of the government and the people.

Growing Strong in the Time of Innovation

Coming out of the war, Chau Thanh bore many wounds and difficulties. The fields were deserted, the infrastructure was destroyed, and the people's lives were full of deprivation. However, with a strong revolutionary tradition and the aspiration to build an increasingly prosperous homeland, the Party Committee, the government and the people of Chau Thanh united as one, embarking on the task of reconstruction and socio-economic development.

Over the past 50 years, Chau Thanh has undergone strong and comprehensive changes. From a purely agricultural district, with an economy mainly based on rice, Chau Thanh has diversified its industries, focusing on developing high-tech agriculture, improving productivity and product quality. Economic models of cooperation and production linkage on fruit trees, crops, and aquatic products have been increasingly replicated. In particular, durian trees have taken root and developed strongly in Chau Thanh in recent years, helping farmers increase their income and stabilize their lives. By 2025, the average income of Chau Thanh people will reach over 72 million VND/person.

In addition to agriculture, Chau Thanh also focuses on developing industry, handicrafts and services. Industrial parks and industrial clusters have been established, attracting investment and creating jobs for local people. Trade and service activities are increasingly vibrant, meeting the increasing needs of society. In particular, in recent years, Chau Thanh has made impressive breakthroughs in administrative procedure reform, becoming one of the leading localities in Dong Thap province in the Provincial Administrative Reform Index for 5 consecutive years. This shows the dynamism, creativity and efficiency in the leadership and management of the Party Committee and district government, as well as the tireless efforts of Chau Thanh people.

Not only focusing on economic development, Chau Thanh also pays attention to the fields of culture, society, education and health. The system of schools and medical stations has been invested in and upgraded, meeting the learning and health care needs of the people. Cultural, physical education and sports activities have been promoted, contributing to improving the spiritual life of the community.

Durian - a crop that helps local farmers have a stable income

Looking back on the 50 years since liberation, Chau Thanh has undergone miraculous changes. From a poor countryside that suffered much pain and loss, Chau Thanh today has taken on a new, dynamic and developing appearance. Lush green orchards, factories, and spacious, well-maintained roads are evidence of the strong rise of a heroic land. In particular, Chau Thanh has completed the task of building a new rural district in 2023, marking a long journey of efforts by the Party Committee, government and people throughout the process of building the homeland.

The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025) is an opportunity for every Chau Thanh resident to be more proud of the heroic revolutionary tradition of their homeland, to cherish the achievements that have been made and to be determined to build Chau Thanh to become more and more beautiful, civilized, worthy of the title "Heroic District" and the expectations of the Party Committee, government and people of Dong Thap province. Chau Thanh today is firmly on the path of integration and development, continuing to write new pages of proud history.
