This information was confirmed on September 29th by his family – his wife, Lisa Meyers, and their eight children – but the specific cause was not disclosed.

Considered an enduring icon of American country music, Kristofferson was a talented musician and singer, with an emotionally charged songwriting style and a distinctive husky voice, associated with melancholic melodies about loneliness, pain, and love.

He created classic songs such as " Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down," "Help Me Make It Through the Night," "For the Good Times," and "Me and Bobby McGee" —a song famously sung by Janis Joplin.

Kristofferson's career wasn't limited to just being a musician; it also extended to acting, with notable roles alongside Barbra Streisand in " A Star Is Born" (released in 1976) and other films such as "Blade" with Wesley Snipes.

Kristofferson was born on June 22, 1936, in Brownsville, Texas (USA). He grew up in a military family and attended Pomona College and Oxford University.

However, instead of pursuing a military career as his family expected, he decided to leave it all behind to pursue his passion for music in Nashville – America's music capital.

From his early days as a janitor in a recording studio, he gradually built a name for himself in the music industry and gained recognition from legends like Johnny Cash, who helped elevate Kristofferson's career with the song "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down."

In the 1980s, Kristofferson, along with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, and Waylon Jennings, formed the band The Highwaymen, leaving an indelible mark on the country music scene.
