On the morning of October 2nd, the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, for the term 2024-2029, officially opened with the participation of over 420 delegates representing all strata of the people.
The opening session was attended by Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City; along with members of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; representatives of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council; representatives of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; and former leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City from various periods.

This congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City is themed "Promoting the strength of national unity, strengthening democracy, and competing to build and develop Ho Chi Minh City into a civilized, modern, and compassionate city." Over the two days of the congress, delegates will assess the situation of all strata of the population and the national unity bloc during the past term.
During the first working session, the congress will approve the report summarizing the activities of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee for the 2019-2024 term; and the direction, objectives, and action program of the Ho Chi Minh City Fatherland Front Committee for the 2024-2029 term. Delegates will also clarify the achievements, models, methods, new factors, and review the limitations and shortcomings, drawing conclusions about their causes and lessons learned.

Later that afternoon, the congress will hold its solemn session. It is expected that Mr. Do Van Chien, Member of the Political Bureau and Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Member of the Political Bureau and Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, will attend and speak at this session.
This congress will also hold consultations to elect members of the Ho Chi Minh City Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee for the 2024-2029 term; and to elect delegates to attend the National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for the 2024-2029 term.
Before the start of the first working session, delegates visited an exhibition of photographs showcasing national unity and the outstanding achievements of the Vietnam Fatherland Front in Ho Chi Minh City during the past term.

In its new term, the Ho Chi Minh City Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front plans to set five targets: 100% of residential areas will organize the National Unity Day annually, with each residential area having at least one practical project or activity serving the community; striving for over 50% of residential areas to organize cultural festivals aimed at the goal of being of the people, by the people, and for the people, and projects and activities that promote community spirit; aiming to raise 650 billion VND for the "For the Poor" Fund; aiming to raise 200 billion VND for the "For the Homeland's Islands and Seas - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" Fund; and coordinating efforts to have 50% or more of residential areas recognized as "Unity, Compassion, and Self-Governing" residential areas.
