Before the semi-final match, Vietnam U22 goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien, who is 1.91m tall, said: "The victory against Malaysia U22 a few days ago will be a motivation for us to continue to play well in the semi-final."

"After that match, the whole team sat down to reflect on their strengths and weaknesses before coach Kim Sang Sik gave an overall assessment of the matches played and looked ahead to the upcoming ones," goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien added.

At the Southeast Asian tournament in July, the Vietnam U22 team defeated the Philippines U22 team in the semi-finals with a score of 2-1. However, compared to that match five months ago, the Philippines U22 team has changed a lot.

In the group stage of the men's football event at the 33rd SEA Games, the U22 Philippines unexpectedly defeated U22 Indonesia to take first place in Group C. However, due to this loss to U22 Philippines, the Indonesian team was eliminated early.

Speaking about the U22 Philippines team, goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien commented: "I think the U22 Philippines team is very strong, as evidenced by their victory over U22 Indonesia in the group stage."

"The Vietnam U22 team needs to practice before the Philippines U22 match. My personal goal in the semi-final is to keep a clean sheet, and at the same time, I want to win the overall match with my teammates and qualify for the final," goalkeeper Tran Trung Kien affirmed.

Tran Trung Kien was a member of the Vietnam U22 team that won the Southeast Asian Championship in July this year. Prior to that, he was a member of the Vietnam national team that won the AFF Cup 2024.
