Khanh Hoa: Boats urgently come ashore to avoid storm number 13

When the Official Dispatch No. 03/CD-UBND dated November 5 of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee Chairman Nguyen Khac Toan on proactively preventing, avoiding and responding to storm Kalmaegi was issued, all measures to respond to the storm were deployed resolutely and urgently by departments, branches and 65 communes, wards and special zones of the province.

Fishermen's aquaculture cages in Ninh Chu ward have been firmly anchored to avoid storms.

According to the direction of the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Khac Toan, all fishing, transportation and circulation activities at sea must end from 12 noon on November 6 until the end of the storm. With responsibility and determination, departments, branches, armed forces and local authorities have joined hands to deploy preventive and response measures to minimize possible damage caused by the storm's impact.

Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thinh, Chairman of Ninh Chu Ward People's Committee, said that in recent days, the ward has continuously sent out notices about storm Kalmaegi. Upon receiving the Directive of the Provincial People's Committee Chairman, Dong Hai Ward immediately deployed measures to prevent, avoid and respond. Regarding the number of boats, the ward manages 260.

Up to this point, all boats have docked at the port for shelter. The People's Committee of Ninh Chu Ward is coordinating with the Ninh Chu Border Guard Station to continue checking and informing the vessels currently offshore to urgently race against time to safely come ashore. The aquaculture of the ward's fishermen has also been anchored and reinforced, and people on cages and rafts have also been mobilized to come ashore to avoid the storm, said Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thinh.

At the fishing ports in the southern region of Khanh Hoa province such as Dong Hai, Ninh Chu, Ca Na ports... all boats have been arranged to anchor in an orderly manner, ensuring safe shelter from the storm. The owner of the ship number NT 90918 TS (in Dong Hai ward) said that after hearing the forecast that the storm had passed the Philippines and was entering the East Sea, affecting the Central provinces and the South Central region, many fishing fleets in the ward informed each other and quickly turned their ships back to the mainland. By noon today, the ships had returned to their localities.

Fortunately, although Dong Hai port is narrow and ships entering and leaving the port is difficult, thanks to the enthusiasm and responsibility of the Port Management Board in arranging and mooring ships in order of large and small ships, ship owners can easily bring their ships to the port, take advantage of the opportunity to unload caught seafood to sell to traders and then rest during the storm.

Fishermen proactively anchor their boats to avoid the storm at Dong Hai Fishing Port.

Mr. Nguyen Pham Luu Hien, Head of Dong Hai Fishing Port, said that the port is currently managing 509 vessels. In the face of storms, in addition to the responsibility of promptly informing the owners of fishing vessels offshore about the weather situation, the Dong Hai Fishing Port force also directly checks and counts the number of vessels that have docked and those that have not docked to report promptly.

For ships that have not yet docked, the Dong Hai Fishing Port forces have coordinated with the border guards to urgently contact the ship owners and bring the ships ashore as soon as possible to avoid damage caused by the storm. By noon on November 5, out of 509 ships, 472 had docked at Dong Hai Fishing Port; the remaining 37 ships have been contacted and are now docked in Lam Dong province and Ho Chi Minh City.

Mr. Le Dinh Khiem, Head of the Department of Fisheries and Sea Islands of Khanh Hoa province, informed that the total number of fishing vessels in the province is 5,213. Of which, the number of vessels operating at sea, mainly in the area between the East Sea, the South East Sea and near the shore is 664 vehicles with about 4,540 fishermen. All vessels in the area between the East Sea and the South East Sea (243 vessels) have now moved out of the storm's affected area, ensuring the safety of fishing vessels and workers at sea.

The leader of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Khanh Hoa province shared that currently, the issue of updating information of ship owners when there are storms is very fast every time they go out to sea to fish. The fact that fishermen proactively move their boats out of the dangerous area of ​​the storm to avoid it is very remarkable. That shows the effectiveness of information work, especially the awareness of fishermen in coastal areas about responding to natural disasters has been raised.
