On April 26, a working delegation from the Ministry of National Defense led by Colonel Can Anh Tuan, Deputy Director of the Department of Military Science, inspected the progress of the overall assessment of the level of chemical/dioxin contamination at Phu Cat airport.
The working group of the Ministry of National Defense inspected the locations where tasks related to assessing the scope, scale, and level of chemical/dioxin contamination in the Phu Cat airport area are being carried out, such as: Bomb, mine, and explosive clearance; drilling holes to collect soil and sediment samples in the areas; taking ambient air samples in the dioxin-contaminated soil landfill area...

Through the inspection, Colonel Can Anh Tuan acknowledged and highly appreciated the sense of responsibility, organization and coordination of the Military Institute of Environmental Chemistry and related units in implementing the task of handling toxic chemicals/dioxin in the environment at Phu Cat airport area. Up to now, the progress of the task has basically met the requirements approved by the Ministry of National Defense.
Regarding the upcoming tasks, Colonel Can Anh Tuan requested units to speed up the progress of surveying, sampling and analyzing to get a comprehensive preliminary picture; promptly advise and propose to the Ministry of National Defense to implement projects to treat and detoxify areas with pollution levels exceeding current permitted standards. Thereby, it will serve as a basis for implementing projects and tasks of the Ministry of National Defense and the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, meeting the requirements of socio-economic development, national defense and security.
