A new era seen from the perspective of the VinFuture competition.

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên08/12/2024

The VinFuture 2024 Grand Prize, one of the largest science and technology awards on the planet founded by Vietnamese people, was awarded to those who pioneered and developed the foundation for artificial intelligence.
This year, VinFuture chose the message "Resilient Breakthrough," signifying that through the gateway of science and technology, humanity will resiliently overcome difficulties to build a more prosperous life. This is also one of the core meanings of "The New Era, the Era of National Empowerment," as conveyed by General Secretary To Lam in his writings, speeches, and directives. Receiving international scientists and experts visiting Vietnam and attending the VinFuture Award Ceremony 2024, the General Secretary emphasized that the VinFuture Award is not only the most valuable annual science award but also a testament to the Vietnamese people's thirst for knowledge, their aspiration to reach out globally, and their ability to absorb the best of humanity, making Vietnam a pioneering nation in science, technology, and innovation. In fact, what the VinFuture Award creates and aims for clearly demonstrates the aspiration of every Vietnamese citizen and business to rise in the new era, contributing to the nation's progress. Firstly, this award, founded by Vietnamese people, is increasingly asserting its international stature in terms of scale, quality, and objectives, bringing together hundreds of the world's most outstanding minds in key fields that shape the future of the world, such as materials science, artificial intelligence, medicine, and the environment. It's worth mentioning that among the previous VinFuture Award winners, four scientists went on to be honored with the Nobel Prize. This is the basis for Professor Quarraisha Abdool Karim, President of the World Academy of Sciences and a member of the VinFuture Award preliminary judging panel, to assert that "winning the award from billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong gives a very high chance of winning the Nobel Prize." More importantly, after four seasons, VinFuture has become a bridge bringing leading scientists from around the world to Vietnam, many of whom were previously unknown to or had not had the opportunity to visit Vietnam. Conversely, VinFuture has brought Vietnamese science and technology to the global stage. This has impacted and narrowed the gap between domestic and international science and technology. The new era, viewed from the perspective of the VinFuture award, also reflects Vietnam's responsibility towards global and human issues. The first VinFuture award, given when the world had just experienced the Covid-19 pandemic, was awarded to three scientists: Katalin Kariko, Drew Weissman (USA), and Pieter Cullis (Canada) for their mRNA technology, paving the way for the creation of effective Covid-19 vaccines. VinFuture 2022 honored four scientific works that "revived and rebuilt" the world. The VinFuture 2023 award honored four scientific works under the theme "Global Collaboration," and most recently, the VinFuture 2024 award, with the message "Breaking Through with Resilience," was given to those who pioneered and developed the foundation for artificial intelligence. I would like to quote NVIDIA Chairman Jensen Huang, one of the five main recipients of the VinFuture 2024 award, in his response to the press after receiving the award: "If you can empathize with the needs of the community, you will create products and solutions that are well-received. In business as in science, it all begins with a spirit of love and service." The era of national progress requires the efforts and involvement of the entire political system, which cannot be without the contributions and service of leading individuals and businesses like Vingroup , and the impact created by the VinFuture award.
