
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Le Duc Luan - Deputy Minister of Health ; on Lao Cai province side, there were Mr. Duong Duc Huy - Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Commission; Ms. Vu Thi Hien Hanh - Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee; and leaders of central ministries, branches, central and local hospitals.

At the ceremony, Dr. Tran Lan Anh - Director of the Hospital reviewed the 70-year journey of building and growing the unit.
The predecessor was the “hospital” taken over by the French colonialists in Nam Cuong area in 1955 with 25 beds, the Hospital has gone through many historical stages, changing its name with administrative adjustments and expanding its infrastructure. From a scale of 150 beds to now, the Hospital has 500 beds.
In July 2025, after the administrative unit arrangement, the Hospital was officially named Lao Cai Provincial General Hospital No. 1 - a Grade I hospital, operating on two campuses and approved by the Prime Minister for development planning to become a provincial-level specialized hospital, playing the role of a regional hospital.


During 70 years of development, the Hospital has continuously improved the quality of medical examination and treatment. Up to now, the unit has successfully performed over 80% of the list of techniques permitted by the Ministry of Health , including 1,280 special techniques; the referral rate is below 2%.
Advanced techniques such as cerebral vascular intervention and thrombolysis for stroke treatment have been awarded gold and titanium certificates by the World Stroke Association for two consecutive years. Many specialized techniques such as microsurgery, brain tumor surgery, joint replacement, coronary intervention, oncology surgery, percutaneous nephrolithotomy, minimally invasive endoscopy, etc. have been routinely implemented, contributing to improving treatment effectiveness at the local level.
Along with expertise, the Hospital is a pioneer in digital transformation of the health sector, becoming one of the first 35 units to publish electronic medical records; ranked 14th nationwide in storing paperless test data; deploying PACS without printing films; Telemedicine connecting to the Central level; expanding remote medical examination registration and cashless payment.
The Hematology, Biochemistry, and Microbiology laboratories simultaneously meet ISO 15189:2022 standards - the international standard for testing capacity. The hospital currently achieves 4.42/5 quality points according to the Ministry of Health's criteria, leading the Northern mountainous provinces.

In international cooperation, the Hospital has implemented projects with JICA; signed professional cooperation agreements with Yokosuka Kyosai Hospital (Japan), Bu San Veterans Hospital (Korea) and is promoting cooperation with partners from the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of France.
The hospital is recognized by the Ministry of Health as a continuing education facility and a practice facility for Hanoi Medical University and medical training facilities in the Northern region.
With great contributions, in the period of 2017 - 2024, the Hospital received 7 Emulation Flags from the Government and the province, 1 Certificate of Merit from the Prime Minister; in 2023, the President awarded the Third Class Labor Medal.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People's Committee Vu Thi Hien Hanh acknowledged the efforts and commended the contributions of generations of doctors; at the same time, requested the Hospital to continue to maintain discipline and medical ethics; develop key specialties; perfect the smart hospital model; expand cooperation; put patients at the center. The province committed to creating favorable conditions in terms of mechanisms and resources for the Hospital to develop sustainably, worthy of being a leading hospital and the trust of the people.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Health Le Duc Luan highly appreciated the outstanding results of the Hospital; suggested continuing to develop in the direction of modernity - specialization - international integration; promoting regional capacity; improving service quality; perfecting digital transformation; maintaining medical ethics, properly implementing the motto "Professionalism - Modernity - Humanity - For People's Health".
70 years is a milestone affirming the will, intelligence and persistent contributions of generations of staff, doctors and nurses of Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1. The hospital is entering a new stage of development with a long-term vision, determined to become a trusted medical address for the people of Lao Cai and the Northwest region.
