Celebrating the 79th anniversary of the success of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945)

The success of the August Revolution in 1945 and the establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, has entered our nation's history as a brilliant page, a victory of the aspiration for freedom and independence, of the spirit of self-reliance and creativity, of solidarity and unity of will and action between the Party and the people.

1. 79 years ago, in 1945, during the boiling August days of the revolution, in the face of the rapid changes in the domestic and international situation that were favorable to the Vietnamese revolution. Facing the once-in-a-millennium opportunity to seize power, the Party decided to convene the National Conference and the National Congress on August 16, 1945 in Tan Trao and decided to launch a general uprising for all people. Following the call of the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, 25 million compatriots across the country, in all localities, from North to South, from rural to urban areas, unanimously rose up to carry out demonstrations, rallies, armed demonstrations, occupying enemy offices and agencies, abolishing the ruling system of the old regime, and uprising to seize revolutionary power. On August 19, 1945, the whole of Hanoi rose up to seize power. The victory of the uprising in the capital Hanoi strongly encouraged the people of the whole country to carry out the uprising and ended in victory. It can be affirmed that the victory of the August Revolution was a great historical leap, marking an extremely great change in the historical process of the Vietnamese people. It smashed the colonial rule for more than 80 years, since the French colonialists opened fire to invade our country, it overthrew the feudal regime of thousands of years. With the victory of the August Revolution, the first worker-peasant state in Southeast Asia was established, the Vietnamese people entered a new era - the era of independence, freedom and socialism. Our people from slaves became masters of the country, masters of their own destiny. Our country from a colonial, semi-feudal country, became an independent country, a people's democratic state. 79 years have passed, the August Revolution of 1945 is still a wonderful symbol of Vietnam's strength, of the Vietnamese spirit, will, mettle and intelligence; it is the crystallization of the tradition of steadfast and indomitable struggle of our nation, with a history of thousands of years of building and defending the country. The victory of the August Revolution was a great victory, a victory of the patriotism and the strength of great solidarity of the entire nation under the leadership of the Party. It was the victory of the correct revolutionary line that our Party had outlined since its founding. It was the creative application of Marxism-Leninism to the specific circumstances of Vietnam, the Party's acumen in seizing the opportunity, leading the people of the whole country to rise up in a general uprising to seize power.

2. Also in the historic August days of 1945, in Binh Thuan, under the leadership of the provisional Viet Minh, the province quickly seized the "once in a thousand years" opportunity to successfully carry out the revolution in the province, when the people could no longer live in such oppression and exploitation. In just 2 days, August 24 and 25, 1945, the people of Binh Thuan seized power in the entire province. Those important days were recorded in the history of the province: “… On the evening of August 23, 1945, at the secret headquarters in Lo Bun (Duc Nghia ward), the provincial Viet Minh Committee met (with the participation of the Phan Thiet town Viet Minh) to assess the situation, discuss the seizure of power the next day (ie August 24, 1945) and assign people to take over the offices… On the morning of August 24, 1945, representatives of the Viet Minh, comrades Nguyen Nhon and Nguyen Tuong, met with Provincial Governor Huynh Du to receive the handover and take over the offices… Then received the treasury, post office , lamp factory… and solved the prison. On the same day as Phan Thiet (August 24, 1945), Ham Thuan district also gained power. Thus, by August 24, 1945, the Binh Thuan provincial government and Ham Thuan district had returned to the people… Along with the seizure of provincial government, on August 24, 1945, the Committee The Viet Minh also organized to seize power in the northern districts of the province... When they learned that the government in Phan Thiet town and Ham Thuan district had fallen into the hands of the people, the leaders of the puppet government in Hoa Da, Tuy Phong, and Phan Ly districts also quickly surrendered, and the people's government was established one after another...". All taxes and unjust policies imposed by the colonial regime were declared abolished. After the uprising, the Provisional Revolutionary People's Committee of Binh Thuan province was established with comrade Nguyen Nhon as Chairman and Nguyen Tuong as Vice Chairman...". Together with the whole country, Binh Thuan contributed to the glorious success of the August Revolution throughout the country and on September 2, 1945, at Ba Dinh Square (Hanoi), President Ho Chi Minh read the Declaration of Independence, declaring to the nation and the world: The Democratic Republic of Vietnam was born.

On the 79th anniversary of the August Revolution, we remember and express our gratitude to the great President Ho Chi Minh , the heroes, martyrs, generations of fathers and grandfathers, heroic Vietnamese mothers, families with meritorious services to the revolution, war invalids and sick soldiers, who heroically sacrificed and devoted their whole lives in the two resistance wars and international duties, for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, for the happiness of the people. The immortal spirit of the August Revolution will always be promoted and spread, so that the entire Party, the entire army, and the entire people of the province can join hands to build the homeland of Binh Thuan in particular and the whole country in general to become increasingly prosperous, fair, democratic, and civilized.
