Due to the impact of natural disasters, especially storm No. 3 ( Yagi ), the 2024 Summer-Autumn crop planting area in the province suffered relatively large damage, leading to a total grain output decrease of 15% compared to the previous year.
According to the forecast of the Provincial Hydrometeorological Station, the 2025 Summer-Autumn crop will continue to take place in erratic weather conditions, with the number of storms and tropical depressions forecast to appear from May to October ranging from 8 to 10, of which 2 to 3 storms will directly affect agricultural production in the province. In addition, from May to September, there is a possibility of 4 to 6 severe heat waves, affecting farmers' planting and production plans.
To have a successful crop, the province directed the agricultural and environmental sectors to coordinate with localities to promote the shift in crop structure towards expanding the area of concentrated commodity crops with high quality, economic value and consumption market; effectively implementing policies to support agricultural restructuring and developing organic agriculture.
Focus on disseminating and replicating models of applying science and technology (S&T) in production such as expanding the area of using high-yield and high-quality rice varieties; implementing the improved rice cultivation system (SRI), integrated pest management (IPM), integrated crop management (IPHM), border-effect rice transplanting; practicing organic agricultural production...
Proactively plan irrigation and drainage for production, ensure water resources and drainage, be ready to respond to and overcome the consequences of natural disasters and climate change.
At the same time, encourage organizations and individuals to rent and collect fields for concentrated production, create favorable conditions for mechanization in production, and register for growing area codes to create large volumes of highly competitive products.
Create favorable conditions for enterprises and cooperatives to invest in production from preliminary processing to consumption of agricultural products; strengthen trade promotion activities, seek output for agricultural products, and gradually build brands for some key agricultural products of the province.
Implementing Resolution No. 20 of the Provincial People's Council on supporting the restructuring of the agricultural sector, the Summer-Autumn and Winter-Autumn crops in 2024, the agricultural sector has supported farmers with 906 tons of high-quality rice seeds, increasing the average production value by 3 - 4 million VND/ha; supporting the production of safe agricultural products according to VietGAP standards with more than 1,500ha; supporting the production of 210ha of leafy vegetables, 100ha of rice, 12ha of fruit trees in an organic direction...
In addition, the Department of Agriculture and Environment actively coordinates with units and enterprises to transfer science and technology, demonstrate many effective and environmentally friendly agricultural production models for replication.
Deputy Head of the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection Nguyen Anh Tuan (Department of Agriculture and Environment) said: "To avoid wasting the Summer-Autumn and Winter-Spring crops, changing the crop structure, introducing quality varieties and applying science and technology to production to increase the value of cultivation is the key solution. Changing people's thinking and raising awareness in agricultural production is a matter of regular concern and implementation by the agricultural sector through propaganda and support for people in terms of agricultural materials and knowledge.
In the 2024 Summer-Autumn and Winter-Spring crops alone, the agriculture and environment sector has implemented 187 training courses on transferring and applying science and technology in agricultural production for more than 14,300 participants.
Through science and technology transfer models such as using microbial products to treat straw on rice plants on a scale of 5,000 hectares; the model of transferring high-quality rice varieties into production on an area of 33 hectares in 5 districts and cities... contributing to increasing the yield of rice treated with straw by 3-6 quintals/ha compared to the average of previous years, the average rice yield increased from 56 to 61 quintals/ha. The application of science and technology in production not only helps increase the value of cultivation but also has a positive impact on environmental sanitation, soil improvement, raising the spirit and determination of the people in production".
In the 2025 Summer-Autumn Crop, the province will continue to maintain the planting target compared to the average of every year at 32,000 hectares, of which the rice planting area will reach 23,000 hectares. Strive to achieve 76% of the quality rice planting area, with grain output reaching more than 161 thousand tons, an increase of 35% compared to 2024.
