Nam A Commercial Joint Stock Bank (Nam A Bank) has just announced the issuance of long-term certificates of deposit to supplement Tier 2 capital and restructure its funding sources. The certificates of deposit have a term of 6 years and are not secured by Nam A Bank's assets.

Nam A Bank has the right to repurchase certificates of deposit before maturity, provided that after the repurchase, it still ensures compliance with the prescribed safety ratios and limits and reports to the State Bank of Vietnam (Banking Inspection and Supervision Agency) for monitoring;

If interest payments result in a loss for the year, Nam A Bank may temporarily suspend payments and carry over the accumulated interest to the following year;

In the event of bank liquidation, the holder of a certificate of deposit will only be paid after the bank has paid all other creditors.

The total issuance value is VND 1 trillion, with each certificate having a face value of VND 10 million. Customers must purchase a minimum of VND 100 million or more, with larger amounts being multiples of VND 10 million. The minimum value of a certificate of deposit issued per customer is VND 100 million.

The issuance period is from September 13th to December 13th, 2025, or until the full face value is issued.

The entities eligible to purchase certificates of deposit include all organizations (excluding credit institutions) and individuals as stipulated by regulations.

Individual customers must maintain a demand deposit account with a minimum balance equal to 50% of the face value of the certificate they intend to purchase, and commit to maintaining this balance for 6 months from the date of issuance. Each certificate of deposit is linked to a demand savings account.

A certificate of deposit is equivalent to a demand deposit.

Institutional clients are required to maintain an average balance in their demand deposits for six consecutive months equal to at least 20% of the face value of the certificates they intend to purchase.

Notably, Nam A Bank announced the method for calculating interest on certificates of deposit = (equals) the listed interest rate for regular savings deposits applicable to deposits of VND 500 billion or more, term of 24 months, interest paid at the end of the term, which is still in effect on the first day of the interest rate application period + (plus) a margin of 1%/year.

According to the standard deposit interest rate schedule for 24-month terms currently listed by Nam A Bank for deposits of 500 million VND or more, the applicable interest rate is 6% per year.

Thus, Nam A Bank's certificate of deposit interest rate reaches 7% per year, significantly higher than the average savings interest rates currently offered by other banks.

Interest rates will be adjusted every six months. Customers can transfer ownership of the certificate of deposit, with a transfer fee of 0.5% of the face value, which applies to the transferor.

Nam A Bank is one of the few banks that offers special interest rates for depositors, with rates up to 6% per year for deposit accounts of 500 million VND or more. Besides this bank, several other banks maintain this policy, including: HDBank, Vikki Bank, PVCombank, ABBank,ACB ...
