BIDV , VPBank, VIB, Vikki Bank, and VCBNeo have joined the group of banks adjusting deposit interest rates, bringing the total number of banks increasing interest rates since the beginning of December to 17. Notably, at VCBNeo and Vikki Bank, deposit interest rates at the counter are now listed at the same level as online deposit rates for many terms.
A notable development in the banking interest rate market is that BIDV , one of the Big4 banks, has officially joined the race to increase deposit interest rates.
For over a year, since July 2024, BIDV has only now adjusted its deposit interest rates.
According to the deposit interest rate schedule recently announced by BIDV, interest rates for terms of 1-5 months have increased by 0.6%/year; and for terms of 6-11 months, the increase is even higher, at 0.7%/year.
For the 12-month term, BIDV maintained the same interest rate; for terms of 13-36 months, BIDV increased the rate by 0.1% per year.
With the above adjustments, BIDV currently lists the following online savings interest rates: 2.6%/year for 1-2 month terms; 2.9%/year for 3-5 month terms; 4%/year for 6-11 month terms; 4.7%/year for 12 month terms; 4.8%/year for 13-18 month terms; and the highest rate is 5%/year for 24-36 month terms.
Earlier, at the end of November, VietinBank , a bank in the Big4 group, also increased interest rates after more than a year of no change.
Nevertheless, BIDV, like the other three banks in the group, remains one of the banks maintaining the lowest deposit interest rates currently.
Conversely, private commercial banks have been continuously increasing deposit interest rates over the past three months. Within just one week, VPBank changed its deposit interest rate schedule twice, raising interest rates for terms from 1-5 months to 4.75%/year after increasing interest rates for 1-2 month terms by 0.35% and 0.25%/year respectively.
VPBank maintains its deposit interest rate at 6% per annum for terms of 6-36 months. However, at its branches, customers can still deposit money with interest rates as high as 6.2% per annum.
Among the banks that have recently increased deposit interest rates, VIB aggressively raised the interest rate for 2-month deposits by 0.65%/year, listing it at 4.75%/year. Thus, the deposit interest rate for 2-5 month terms at this bank has reached its ceiling.
VIB also increased interest rates for 6-11 month deposits by 0.3%/year, to 5.3%/year.
Notably, the interest rate for 12-month deposits surged to 6.5% per year after a sharp increase of 1% per year. This is also VIB's highest deposit interest rate at this time.
The two banks required to transfer funds, Vikki Bank and VCBNeo, despite leading the market in deposit interest rates, are still in the race.
At Vikki Bank , the online deposit interest rate for 1-3 month terms remains unchanged at 4.7%/year, but the interest rate for 6-month terms has increased by 0.4%/year to 6.5%/year. This is currently the highest deposit interest rate on the market for the 6-month term.
Vikki Bank has increased interest rates on 12- and 13-month term deposits by 0.3% per year, listing them at 6.6% and 6.7% per year respectively, which are also the highest deposit interest rates on the market today.
In addition to increasing regular interest rates, Vikki Bank also raised its special interest rate to 8.4%/year (previously 7.7%/year) for customers depositing savings of 999 billion VND or more.
Meanwhile, deposit interest rates for terms of 1-5 months at VCBNeo could not be higher as the bank recently listed a new ceiling rate of 4.75%/year, an increase of 0.4%/year for terms of 1-4 months and an increase of 0.05%/year for the 5-month term.
VCBNeo maintains the same deposit interest rates for remaining terms, with the highest listed rate at 6.2%/year for terms from 12-60 months.
With a number of banks recently raising interest rates, since the beginning of December, 17 banks have increased deposit interest rates, including: Techcombank, MB, NCB, BVBank, Saigonbank, ACB, Bac A Bank, OCB, KienlongBank, Sacombank, SHB, PGBank, VIB, Vikki Bank, VCBNeo, BIDV, and VPBank. Of these, NCB, VPBank, and Techcombank have adjusted their interest rates twice.
