(NLDO) - The Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee stated that planning and constructing high-tech waste treatment plants is a top priority for the upcoming year 2025.
During the questioning session at the 21st meeting of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Council on October 12th, People's Council representatives requested the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to explain its responsibilities and solutions regarding the numerous shortcomings in the operation of the two waste treatment plants in Da Lat and Bao Loc, which have a significant impact on the environment.

Recently, the press has repeatedly reported on the two waste treatment plants in Xuan Truong commune (Da Lat city) operated by Green Energy Environment Co., Ltd. and in Da Lao commune (Bao Loc city) operated by Friendly Green Environment Joint Stock Company, which have repeatedly stopped accepting waste, causing foul odors, environmental pollution, and unpaid wages for workers.
Mr. Nguyen Van Trai, Acting Director of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Lam Dong province, said that the province has 3 waste incineration plants in Xuan Truong commune (Da Lat city), Dai Lao commune (Bao Loc city) and in Duc Trong district (not yet implemented), while the rest of the waste is mainly landfilled.
Regarding the NMXLR (National Waste Management Center) in Dai Lao and Xuan Truong communes, Mr. Trai stated that many obstacles have arisen during operation. These difficulties are not unique to Lam Dong province, especially with urban waste management. The department has inspected and reminded them many times.

"During the process, there were violations, but we also created conditions for them to rectify them to avoid the accumulation of waste, especially in Da Lat City," Mr. Trai explained.
Regarding solutions, Mr. Trai suggested that it is necessary to promote waste sorting at source; increase funding for purchasing more vehicles for waste collection and transportation; and implement solutions related to waste treatment technology.
Regarding this issue, Mr. Tran Hong Thai, Chairman of the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, noted that the province generates approximately 1,000 tons of household waste per day but lacks a high-tech waste treatment plant plan. He stated that this is an essential need and will be the top priority in 2025 for planning a waste treatment plant; specific criteria will be established, and investors will be sought.
"The province's criteria are: firstly, maximum efficiency in waste disposal; secondly, minimal space usage; and thirdly, no unpleasant odors or dust that could affect health," Mr. Thai affirmed.

According to Mr. Thai, with such criteria, it is impossible to divide the rice milling and processing plants into smaller units across districts/cities. Instead, there must be centralized rice milling and processing plants with a capacity of 500 tons/day to be able to invest in high technology. Localities should not think that each district has only one rice milling and processing plant to serve itself. The approach should be to have about 3 rice milling and processing plants with a capacity of approximately 500 tons/day, equipped with modern technology, transparent investment processes, and clear commitments; this is entirely feasible.
"We will achieve this in 2025. Regarding high-tech waste treatment, the construction process will take about two years. We have been behind by more than ten years, so we must be determined to get it done soon," the Chairman of the People's Committee of Lam Dong province affirmed.
