Sharing from young hearts
At Tay Bac University, on the first day of October, from 7 a.m., the Information Center and Library area of the school was bustling with the atmosphere of the "Voluntary Blood Donation Festival 2025" with the message "Donate blood to save lives - Donate regularly" organized by the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation of Son La province in coordination with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion.
The line of people registering to donate blood was long, with the youthful faces of students from various faculties and classes, mixed with the uniforms of officers and soldiers of Battalion 2, Northwest Mobile Police Regiment under the Ministry of Public Security ; Na San Airport Base Battalion, Division 371 under the Air Defense - Air Force. The words of encouragement, the excited and proud eyes created a beautiful picture of the spirit of humanity.

Lo Van Truong, class K64, Primary Education B, Tay Bac University, shared: In the past, I and many other students were hesitant to donate blood. But after being informed and understanding that donating blood is a noble act, helping patients have a chance to be saved, I boldly registered. From 2023 to now, I have donated blood 3 times. Each time I participate, I feel proud because I have contributed my small part to saving others.

In order to spread the voluntary blood donation movement widely, every year, the Youth Union and Student Association of Tay Bac University develop a specific plan, promote propaganda about the purpose and meaning of humanitarian blood donation. The content is transmitted through social networks, zalo groups, and union and association activities, helping students understand and actively participate. In addition, the school also encourages students to gain training points for participating in supporting and directly donating blood.
Mr. Kieu Tien Luong, Secretary of the Youth Union of Tay Bac University, informed: The propaganda and mobilization of blood donation is carried out regularly, diversely and richly. Since the beginning of the year, the school has coordinated to organize a voluntary blood donation program, attracting more than 1,000 staff and students to register to donate blood and more than 200 union members and youth to participate in supporting the service.

At Son La Medical College, with the characteristics of training medical students, those who are closely involved in public health care, the voluntary blood donation movement always receives strong support from staff, lecturers and students. The Youth Union and Student Association of the school regularly launch and direct branches and associations to effectively implement blood donation campaigns. Many practical activities such as "Pink Spring Festival", "Voluntary Blood Donation Day"... have attracted a large number of students to participate, contributing to supplementing blood sources for emergency and treatment, while nurturing the spirit of compassion and professional responsibility of medical students.

In particular, from 2023 to present, Son La Medical College has maintained a Mobile Blood Bank Club, gathering nearly 200 union members and volunteer students, including Lao students studying abroad, ready to donate blood whenever there is an urgent request from medical facilities.
Lecturer Luong Thi Ly, Faculty of Pharmacy, Head of the Mobile Blood Bank Club of Son La Medical College, shared: Every month, we record 2 to 5 cases requiring emergency blood transfusion. Each time, the club mobilizes 3 to 5 units of blood to support patients. Since its establishment, this model has become a bright spot in the province's blood donation movement, contributing to maintaining a stable reserve blood supply and spreading the spirit of "A good doctor is like a kind mother" among the young generation.
Spread the spirit of charity
Teacher Nguyen Viet Chung, a lecturer at Son La Medical College, was honored as "National Outstanding Blood Donor". Because he directly donated blood 25 times and mobilized more than 2,000 people to participate. In 2024, his family was honored by the Son La Provincial Red Cross as "Outstanding Blood Donor Family", with the achievement of donating blood 25 times and his wife donating blood 7 times. Teacher Chung shared: Of the 25 times I donated blood, more than 10 times I donated blood suddenly to save patients. After each time, I felt happy knowing that my blood contributed to bringing life to others. With the message "Every drop of blood given, a life remains", I always try to mobilize relatives and colleagues to participate.

Since the beginning of the year, the Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation in Son La province has coordinated with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion and the Provincial General Hospital to organize 11 programs and humanitarian blood donation festivals; hanging more than 40 billboards and posters, distributing nearly 2,000 leaflets promoting humanitarian blood donation. The events attracted thousands of participants, of which union members, youth and students accounted for a large proportion. Through the campaigns, the whole province received 5,376 units of blood, contributing to meeting the blood needs for treatment and emergency care of patients. In particular, the voluntary blood donation festival held at the Northwestern University and Son La Medical College has become an annual activity, spreading the spirit of mutual love among young people.

Ms. Cam Thi Chuyen, President of the Provincial Red Cross Society, said: In recent years, the voluntary blood donation movement in Son La has had positive developments. In particular, students and youth union members are the core force, always ready to participate in donating blood to save lives, demonstrating social responsibility and profound humanitarian spirit. The Provincial Red Cross Society continues to promote propaganda about the meaning and importance of blood donation activities, especially on peak occasions such as the Spring Festival, National Voluntary Blood Donation Day on April 7, World Blood Donor Day on June 14, the Summer Blood Drops Campaign - Red Journey... At the same time, in coordination with the Youth Union and Student Union of schools, the blood donation movement has become a training and competition criterion for union members and students, promptly honoring outstanding groups and individuals.
Every drop of blood donated is a gift of life, a symbol of compassion, sharing spirit and community responsibility that is spreading more and more strongly among the young generation of Son La today.
