(CT) - On July 21, 2025, Mr. Tran Chi Hung, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, together with the Office of the Steering Committee for Civil Defense - Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue (PTDS-PCTT&TKCN) of Can Tho City visited, encouraged and supported families whose houses collapsed, had their roofs blown off or were damaged due to storms in recent days, in Trung Nhut ward and Trung Hung commune.

At the places he visited, Mr. Tran Chi Hung visited, encouraged, and supported the families with expenses to overcome the consequences, rebuild new houses, and soon stabilize their lives. The Vice Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee also requested the local authorities to continue to review and count households affected by natural disasters, report to the city to promptly support people to overcome the consequences; at the same time, the locality needs to increase inspections and mobilize people to reinforce their houses to limit collapse and roof loss due to storms, tornadoes, etc.

The heavy rain and storm on the evening of July 20 completely collapsed the house of Mr. Tran Thanh Khuya (residing in Thanh Loc 2 area, Trung Nhut ward). The house is 8m wide and 8m long, with wooden pillars, wooden walls, corrugated iron... The natural disaster did not affect people, but the house collapsed, making it difficult for Mr. Khuya's family to find a place to live. Immediately after the natural disaster, the Economic , Infrastructure and Urban Department of Trung Nhut ward directed civil servants to go to the scene to verify and record the current situation to report to the city's functional agencies, and at the same time support the family to clean up and arrange damaged items.

In Trung Hung commune, on the evening of July 20, heavy rain and thunderstorms damaged 5 houses, and 2 people were slightly injured. The commune People's Committee mobilized forces to support people to overcome the consequences; at the same time, coordinated with the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control and Search and Rescue of Can Tho City to support 21 million VND for households to repair houses, overcome the damage, and stabilize their lives. Since the beginning of the year, heavy rain and thunderstorms have damaged 9 houses in Trung Hung commune, with an estimated total damage of 101 million VND. The locality has coordinated to support 33 million VND for people to overcome the damage.

Storm No. 3 is appearing in the Northwestern sea area of the North East Sea. Can Tho City is also affected by the storm, need to be on guard against heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and tornadoes.

According to the Can Tho City Hydrometeorological Station, in the coming days, in Can Tho City, the clouds will change to mostly cloudy, with intermittent sunny days, scattered rain, showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening, with moderate rain, heavy rain and strong thunderstorms in some places. During the thunderstorms, there will be dangerous weather phenomena: tornadoes, lightning and strong gusts of wind, affecting agricultural production and people's lives. In particular, rain will be concentrated in the southwest of the city. The sea area from Lam Dong to Ca Mau, including the sea area of Can Tho City, will have showers and thunderstorms; strong southwest winds at level 5, sometimes level 6, gusting to level 7-8. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, strong gusts above level 8 and wave heights above 3m.

The Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue of Can Tho City requested all sectors and levels to proactively prevent and respond to storm No. 3 and unusual weather and natural disaster situations; continue to implement the contents directed by the Prime Minister on focusing on responding to the risk of heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, landslides, flash floods and proactively preventing natural disasters in the coming time; closely monitor the developments of storms in the East Sea, prepare plans to ensure safety for people and property; guide fishing boats to find safe shelters; closely monitor forecasts, warnings of natural disasters, storms and circulation of storm No. 3 of specialized units to promptly have response plans; proactively prepare forces and means to deploy response, rescue, and remediation work when situations occur; strengthen propaganda and mobilize people to limit going out when thunderstorms occur; Strengthening house bracing to limit roof damage and collapse; trimming trees on sidewalks and near houses to limit dangerous breakage; people should not work in open fields to prevent lightning strikes...
