In September 2024, storm No. 3 caused landslides that broke poles and power lines in many places in Lao Cai province, causing many households to lose power for a long time. However, Mr. Van Huu Khanh's family in Group 4, Bat Xat commune still had electricity thanks to the pre-installed rooftop solar power system.
Mr. Khanh said: “Saving electricity does not mean not using it, but using it for the right needs and purposes. The solar power system helps my family save more than 1 million VND per month. When there is a power outage, we still have enough electricity for basic living for a certain period of time.”

In the context of increasing demand for electricity, especially in the summer, causing the risk of power shortages, affecting people's daily life and production, Lao Cai province has proactively implemented many electricity saving solutions such as: propaganda, guidance on efficient electricity use in households, signing load adjustment agreements with large enterprises, controlling metering and applying energy-saving equipment.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Do - Deputy Head of the Electromechanical Department of Lao Cai Copper Mining Branch - Vimico, shared: "Saving electricity not only brings economic benefits to the business but also contributes to supporting the electricity industry and the community. When necessary, we are willing to reduce or temporarily stop some production stages to share the difficulties."
Thanks to the synchronous implementation of solutions, the power loss rate in Lao Cai has decreased from 4.72% in 2010 to 2.21% in 2024. After Lao Cai province merged with Yen Bai province to form the new Lao Cai province in July 2025, despite the increase in the area, the power loss rate remains low. The third quarter of 2025 reached 2.96%, the cumulative rate for the whole year is expected to be 3.14%, 0.22% lower than the plan.

Mr. Vu Duy Khuong - Deputy Director of Lao Cai Electricity Company, said: "Saving electricity brings clear economic benefits. Households reduce electricity costs, and equipment lasts longer. For businesses, saving electricity also helps reduce production costs, thereby improving production and business efficiency."
Saving electricity not only helps reduce costs but also contributes to protecting resources, the environment and ensuring a stable power supply. When both people and businesses do it together, this will be a sustainable solution to ensure energy security in the future.
