During the war against the US, Nghe An served as a direct rear base for the major southern front, and a major front line for the socialist northern rear base. Truong Bon was a vital transportation artery supplying manpower and resources to the southern battlefield. Amidst the fierce smoke and bombs, with life and death hanging in the balance, thousands of cadres, soldiers, civilian workers, and people bravely held their ground, fighting with unwavering determination: "Our hearts may stop beating, but the road cannot be blocked"; "We will live clinging to the bridge and the road; we will die bravely and resolutely."

Provincial Party Secretary Thai Thanh Quy and Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung respectfully offered incense at the collective grave of 13 fallen youth volunteers.

1,240 officers and soldiers bravely fought and sacrificed their lives at Truong Bon; among them, the tragic sacrifice of 13 young volunteers from Squad 2 - the "Steel Squad" of Company 317, Team 65, Nghe An Youth Volunteer Brigade on October 31, 1968, just before the US imperialists stopped bombing in the North at 0:00 on November 1, 1968, has become an immortal example of patriotism and revolution.

Provincial leaders, the organizing committee, and delegates offered prayers and food at the Memorial House for 1,240 fallen youth volunteers.

Fifty-six years have passed, yet the song of Truong Bon still resonates, an immortal epic of youth in the struggle for national liberation. Blood, sweat, and tears mingled in the sacred land of Truong Bon, contributing to the victory of the struggle for the liberation of the South and the reunification of the country. The war has receded into the past, and life has been revived right on the "fire zone" of yesteryear. The Truong Bon National Historical Site is a historical symbol of the Nghe An Youth Volunteers, a place where the spirits of 1,240 cadres and soldiers of our army and people who bravely fought and sacrificed to protect the Truong Bon transportation artery – creating a legendary Truong Bon in our nation's great struggle for national defense in the 20th century – converge. Every day, the site is filled with the fragrance of flowers from domestic and international visitors who come to pay tribute to the brave men and women who heroically "fought to the death for the Fatherland."

Thai Thanh Quy, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, offered incense before the statue of the 13 fallen youth volunteers.

Through this commemoration ceremony, we recall the tradition of indomitable struggle, unwavering will, resilience, and the admirable courage and sacrifice of the Soviet people of Nghe An province.
