Ho Chi Minh City's 10th grade entrance exam took place on June 6-7 with more than 100,000 candidates, according to the Departmentof Education and Training.
The exam will still take place with three subjects: Math, Literature, and Foreign Language. Students applying for specialized grade 10 or integrated English program will take additional specialized and integrated subjects.
According to the Department of Education and Training, the content of the exam is in the secondary school curriculum, mainly in grade 9. The exam score is calculated on a scale of 10, with a decimal point of 0.25. The admission score is the total score of the three subjects, calculated by a coefficient of one and the priority bonus points. Successful candidates must take all three exams and not have any score of 0.
Students graduating from junior high school in Thanh An island commune, Can Gio district, are considered for admission to grade 10.

In the 2023-2024 school year, Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have about 116,300 junior high school graduates. Of these, more than 71,000 will have places in public schools. The remaining 45,000 students can choose to continue their studies at private high schools, continuing education centers or vocational schools.
In order to increase student rights, the Department of Education and Training increased the number of 10th grade registration wishes for specialized and integrated candidates to 3 instead of 2 as before. For regular classes, students still have a maximum of 3 wishes.
The city also stopped enrolling non-specialized 10th graders, integrated at two specialized high schools, Le Hong Phong and Tran Dai Nghia, according to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training .
