Flash flood collapses 3 houses in Nghe An at night

(PLVN) - A flash flood occurred in Hanh Dich commune, Que Phong district (Nghe An province) on the night of May 28, causing three houses to collapse, many hectares of rice and crops, livestock and poultry to be swept away.

Mr. Lo Van Viet - Chairman of Hanh Dich Commune People's Committee said that in the afternoon and evening of May 28, there was prolonged heavy rain in the commune, causing water levels in some rivers and streams to rise.

Realizing that there was a high risk of flash floods, local authorities and armed forces in the area have propagated and mobilized people in some vulnerable areas to proactively evacuate to safe places for shelter.

At around 9pm the same day, a large flash flood suddenly occurred in Long Thang hamlet, Hanh Dich commune. Floodwaters and rocks from upstream of Pung stream poured down, damaging houses, crops and many people's properties.

Thanks to proactive response, the flood did not cause any human casualties. According to initial statistics, 3 houses collapsed, many hectares of rice fields ready for harvest and crops were damaged.

On the morning of May 29, the People's Committee of Que Phong district established a working group to coordinate with the authorities of Hanh Dich commune to be present at Long Thang village to encourage and visit people, count the damage, and deploy remedial measures.
