The reason why 'Southern Forest Land' was not nominated for the Green Star Award

Despite its high box office revenue, "Southern Forest Land" was absent from the Green Star Awards nominations in the feature film category.

The 10th Green Star Awards has just announced the nominations in three award categories: Film, Television, and Web Drama.

The organizers announced that this year's awards feature a new category structure. Specifically, the 10th edition will continue to honor 27 awards across three categories: film (10 awards), television (11 awards), and web series (6 awards).

This year there will be no accompanying category, and two additional audience-voted awards will be added in the Web Drama category.

This year's judging panel includes journalist Dinh Trong Tuan, People's Artist and director Dao Ba Son, Meritorious Artist and director Le Hoang, People's Artist Kim Xuan, screenwriter Chau Tho, Meritorious Artist and director Do Duc Thinh, and critic and screenwriter Doan Minh Tuan.

Some of the notable names competing in this season include veteran artists such as Meritorious Artist Thanh Loc, People's Artist Kim Xuan, People's Artist Hong Van, "box office king" Thai Hoa, Viet Huong, Hong Dao, Truong Giang, Minh Hang, Kaity Nguyen... as well as promising young faces emerging on screen such as rapper HIEUTHUHAI, Miss Vietnam Tieu Vy...

Miss Tiểu Vy has been nominated for "Best Actress" in the Web Drama category.

In the feature film category, " Southern Forest Land" attracted attention for its absence from all award nominations. Responding to this, journalist Dinh Trong Tuan, Chairman of the Art Council, affirmed that "Southern Forest Land" has faced numerous problems recently.

"I, along with People's Artist Dao Ba Son and director Le Hoang, also attended the film festival in Da Lat. 'Southern Forest Land' also competed for the Golden Lotus Award at this festival. During the judging period, the film received a lot of mixed reviews."

Of course, it's not a problem for the Green Star Awards committee, but for Mr. Trinh Hoan (the producer of "Southern Forest Land"), director Nguyen Quang Dung is also a friend and brother of mine.

We also sat down and talked, and they really wanted to start a new job or project, and all the controversies surrounding the film temporarily stopped. In accordance with their wishes, we did not nominate "Southern Forest Land" for this award. If we had nominated the film again, it would have been another battle that would have tired them out," he shared.

When asked about the decision not to expand the nominations in the television drama category, journalist Dinh Trong Tuan said: "We are open to all television stations and films. However, we cannot decide whether or not we will receive an agreement after the invitation. VTV also has its own awards, so they may be hesitant to compete because they want to have exclusive rights to their awards."

The television series nominated for the Green Star Awards are all invited entries, and the final decision rests with the production company.

Journalist Dinh Trong Tuan and Mr. Lam Chi Thien are members of the art council.

The Green Star Award is one of the most prestigious annual film and television awards in Vietnam. 2023 marks a significant milestone for the award as it enters its 10th year, celebrating a decade of honoring exemplary artistic values that have made positive contributions to the country's film industry and helped bridge the gap between Vietnamese artists and international recognition.

The Green Star Awards 2023 ceremony will take place at 6:00 PM on January 10, 2024, at Hoa Binh Theater, Ho Chi Minh City.
