My Dinh Stadium is undergoing a comprehensive renovation with the entire foundation of the field being redone and then the grass surface being replaced with high-quality grass.

My Dinh Stadium is undergoing a comprehensive renovation of the turf and subgrade. This is part of the strategy to upgrade My Dinh Stadium's facilities to serve major sporting events, especially important matches of the Vietnam national team.

My Dinh Stadium is being renovated

Despite being a national stadium, My Dinh Stadium has received many complaints from fans over the years about the quality of the grass. The grass surface is often degraded, affecting not only the quality of the matches but also reducing the beauty of the field when it is shown on television, especially in international matches. After many years of use, the grass has withered and does not meet competition standards. This is the reason why the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has had to choose other fields to host matches of the national team as well as youth teams, such as Viet Tri Stadium in the recent U.23 Asian qualifiers.

With the aim of overcoming the remaining problems, My Dinh Stadium will be comprehensively renovated with a total cost of about 10 billion VND from the state budget. This amount will be allocated in two phases: the first phase of 8 billion VND will be used to renovate the ground, including digging and renewing the entire ground, expected to be completed by the end of this year. Since being put into use in 2003 (serving the 22nd SEA Games), this is the first time the ground has been remade.

The drainage system is also renewed. The irrigation system is also completely new, a modern system of world standards.

According to the Government 's savings policy, the above 8 billion VND will be deducted by 20%, so My Dinh will receive 6 billion VND.

And the second installment, worth 2 billion VND, will be reserved for laying new grass. During the waiting period for the new grass to be laid, activities on the field will be affected.

Since the renovation to prepare for the 31st SEA Games (taking place in the summer of 2022), My Dinh Stadium has not had any major renovations. Recent important matches of the Vietnamese team have also not been able to be held at the national stadium.

New grass will be laid by 2026.

The bad grass surface of My Dinh Stadium has been mentioned many times in recent years. And after the foundation replacement process is completed, expected to be in early 2026, when the next funding is received, My Dinh Stadium will be covered with new grass that is more resistant to the harsh weather conditions in Vietnam.

This type of grass can be replaced locally in patches if there is a problem, instead of having to replace the entire lawn like old grass, helping to save costs and maintenance time.

This work is expected to be completed by the end of October 2025.

While waiting for the next round of funding to lay the turf, on-field activities will be affected.

The stadium upgrade will not only serve football matches but also help improve the quality of cultural and artistic events held here. This is an important step forward for My Dinh Stadium to be able to welcome international events and contribute to raising the image of Vietnamese sports on the world map.
