Typically, in Buon Don (Buon Don commune), besides the cultural and ethnic diversity, in the past, in the village there still existed backward customs. Whenever a family had a sick person, they held a ceremony. These rituals not only cost money and time but also delay medical examination and treatment, affecting health.

In an effort to change perceptions, influential people like Mr. Y Dem Byă have become leading examples. Mr. Y Dem frankly said: “If you believe in a shaman, you will lose money and your illness will not be cured, or even worse. Instead, believe in a doctor, and your illness will be cured.”

Thanks to his persistent advocacy, people gradually raised their awareness and stopped being superstitious. Whenever a family member got sick, instead of believing in shamans, people took their loved ones to the health station or hospital for examination and treatment.

Up to now, the village has basically eliminated bad customs that are no longer suitable for the new life. Civilized lifestyles exist in weddings, funerals and festivals associated with preserving and promoting the values of the nation's fine traditional cultural identity, aiming at sustainable poverty reduction.

Thanks to that, the number of poor and near-poor households in Thong Nhat village has decreased significantly. Currently, the whole village has only 60 poor households and 7 near-poor households.
