In just 4 years, the scientific research budget of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics has doubled - from 257 billion VND (in 2021) to 547 billion VND (in 2024). At the same time, revenue from research and technology transfer has also increased sharply, reaching 520 billion VND in 2024, accounting for 27% of the total revenue of the school.
Eight years ago, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics announced a large reward for international articles. Accordingly, an ISI/Scopus Q1 publication with IF>2 was rewarded with 200 million VND; Q1 IF>1 was 150 million VND; Q1 IF<1 was 100 million VND; Scopus Q2 was 80 million VND; Q3 was 60 million VND and Q4 was 30 million VND.

Despite bold investment in research, the support for students of Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics is still quite modest, at 90 billion VND in 2024, only a slight increase compared to 56 billion VND in 2021.
At this school, salaries and income for lecturers account for about one-third of total expenses, reaching 617 billion VND in 2024 (up from 445 billion VND in 2021). After deducting expenses, Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics still has a surplus of 427 billion VND, three times higher than in 2021.
In many other universities, spending on scientific research is often more modest. Specifically, in 2024, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology will spend 126 billion VND on research, or at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, spending only 23 billion VND on research.
