According to a recent survey by Hanoi Medical University, the employment rate of graduates in their field within 12 months of graduation is high in some majors. Preventive Medicine and Traditional Medicine are at 85%, and Medicine is at 50%. This is explained by the fact that after graduation, students continue to study for residency or postgraduate studies instead of going to work immediately.

According to the latest information from Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, 82.38% of the total of more than 1,200 students graduating in 2025 have found jobs or continued to study to improve their qualifications. There are 140 new graduates admitted to the residency and graduate programs.

According to statistics from the school's 2024 graduates, the employment rate ranges from 90% to 100% (data from student feedback).

Of which, the highest rate is 100% in the Dentistry industry; 99.5% in the Medicine industry; 95.8% in the Medical Testing industry; 93.3% in the Nutrition industry and 93.3% in the Ophthalmology industry.

However, considering the ratio of employed students to total graduates, this figure is much lower, ranging from 46.4% to 89.3% (as many students did not participate in the survey).

Specifically, the Dentistry industry has the highest rate of 89.3%; Medicine 84.7%; Nutrition 65.1%... The lowest rate is in the Nutrition and Emergency out-of-hospital industry group with 46.4%, Ophthalmology Refractive 48.3%...

According to a recent report from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ( Thai Nguyen University), many training majors "have jobs after graduation" with a 100% rate such as Preventive Medicine, Medical Laboratory Technology, and Dentistry.

The employment rate in the medical industry is 97.6%; in the pharmaceutical industry 95.8%. Nursing is the industry with the lowest employment rate at 80.77%.

As for students studying postgraduate programs such as master's and doctoral programs, the employment rate is 100%.

At Vinh University of Medicine, the rate of graduates in 2024 who have jobs in the field of Preventive Medicine is 93.2%. At the University of Medicine and Pharmacy ( Hue University), this figure is 97.5%.

At Nguyen Tat Thanh University, the rate of graduates having jobs after one year of graduation in Preventive Medicine (in group VI) is 90%.

Statistics at the School of Medicine and Pharmacy (Duy Tan University) show that 94% of graduates have jobs within the first year. At Hong Bang University, for many years now, the health sector has had a graduate employment rate of over 90%.

Recently, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh informed that the new Resolution does not allow non-specialized universities to train in certain specific fields, in which only medical schools are allowed to train doctors.

According to many experts, controlling the conditions for opening the industry and the quality of medical training is a must to ensure the quality of human resources in this special industry. Do not relax the quality of medical training, avoid the situation of "many people with medical degrees but few good doctors".

During the consultation session on the revised Law on Higher Education, National Assembly delegate Tran Khanh Thu (Hung Yen) emphasized that some fields need strict specific regulations in opening training majors right in the law, not only related to infrastructure but also the capacity and qualifications of lecturers of different majors.

This person raised concerns about the impossibility of allowing a doctor trained from a school with 25-28 points to pass the entrance exam the same as a doctor who passed the entrance exam with only 15 points.

The plan to implement the healthcare network planning for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050, approved by the Government, emphasizes the goal of developing high-quality healthcare human resources.

According to the target proposed by the Ministry of Health, by 2025, Vietnam needs to have 15 doctors and 25 nurses per 10,000 people; by 2030, it will increase to 19 doctors and 33 nurses per 10,000 people.

The Ministry of Health's forecast shows that the demand for medical personnel will continue to increase sharply in the coming years, especially after 2030. The risk of nursing shortage is assessed as more serious, with a shortage twice as high as that of doctors. In the period 2021-2030, the country needs to add about 173,400 doctors and up to 313,900 nurses.
