At the sharing session, Mr. Do Tien Dat (Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union Training Council) said that naming emotions is related to preventing school violence.
When children know they are upset about being teased, sad about being ostracized, or angry about being pushed, they will become more aware of their state and reduce their spontaneous reactions, "knowing how to avoid repeating actions that hurt you."
Nguyen Phuong Linh, Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development Management, said that naming emotions and training helps children recognize when negative emotions arise. In that moment, just restrain, calm down, think and breathe, and children will quickly regain control.
"Don't let emotions control you, we have to identify and guide your emotions," Ms. Linh emphasized.
Ms. Phuong Linh said that children are growing up, their brains are not fully developed, so their emotions are also erratic, sometimes falling into a state of confusion: where am I, what am I doing? Especially during puberty, children often experience many complex emotions, sometimes confused in their own emotions, so they need to listen to understand.
"Every emotion needs to be respected, and those experiences will help you understand yourself and grow up," said Linh.
Doctor Phan Thi Thuy Tien, Department of Psychiatry (HCMC Psychiatric Hospital), has examined many children with emotional problems, especially anxiety and depression. These children often find it difficult to share with family, teachers or friends, affecting their studies and quality of life.
"Adults need to listen and not judge so that children feel safe and open up. They need to help children control their emotions and behavior and communicate well with people," said Dr. Tien.
Thinking the same, Ms. Linh said that children need to be encouraged to share and connect with the surroundings. Parents need to understand their emotions and at the same time observe and accompany children to recognize positive or negative emotions.
Teacher Dat said it is very important for parents to accompany and interact regularly to help their children relieve their emotions, guide them with appropriate advice and stories, and schools need to clearly understand the pressure and inner changes of students.
