Ho Chi Minh City National University deploys plan for 2026 Competency Assessment Exam

On the afternoon of December 5, Ho Chi Minh City National University held a Conference to summarize the virtual filtering work of the southern group and organize the 2025 Capacity Assessment Exam; and deploy the 2026 plan.

According to Ho Chi Minh City National University, 2025 marked the largest scale ever in virtual filtering for admission in the South, with 87/87 higher education institutions participating, more than 1.59 million wishes processed through 15 virtual filtering groups. The average virtual rate reached 172%, reflecting the large workload and high coordination requirements of the relevant parties.

The Aptitude Test continues to affirm its pivotal role in the admission strategy of Ho Chi Minh City National University, with more than 152,000 candidates and more than 223,000 registrations at 55 testing locations in 25 provinces and cities across the country. The value and reliability of the test continue to be consolidated and improved, demonstrated through a stable score range and good differentiation ability.

In terms of expertise, the exam structure is adjusted according to the 2018 General Education Program, enhancing the assessment of thinking ability, analysis, synthesis and problem-solving ability. The scientific thinking section is designed to be linked to practical situations, thereby measuring reasoning ability and encouraging critical and creative thinking.

The spread of the Competency Assessment Test continues to expand. In 2025, 111 higher education institutions used the test results in admissions. Particularly for schools in the Ho Chi Minh City National University system, this method accounts for about 56.32% of the admission quota.

Entering 2026, in the context of adjusted admission regulations and schedules, Ho Chi Minh City National University proactively coordinates closely with the Ministry of Education and Training in deploying admission software, updating new regulations and rules; organizing training and early system testing so that schools in the southern group are technically and procedurally ready, minimizing errors in the virtual filtering and admission process, while improving technical quality and ensuring safety and security for the Competency Assessment Exam.

Ho Chi Minh City National University continues to organize 2 rounds of exams before the High School Graduation Exam; expands the exam location to create the most favorable conditions for candidates to take the exam; maintains the exam structure, continues to improve and perfect the content of exam questions towards international standards, ensuring reliability and high classification ability; strengthens supervision and fraud prevention; strongly applies technology in exam invigilation and grading to improve accuracy and transparency.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cao Vinh, Vice President of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said that the goal is that each capacity assessment test must be safe, serious, transparent, while still being friendly, providing maximum support to candidates and helping training institutions select suitable, quality candidates.
