Specifically, Thanh Mien 1 commune was renamed Thanh Mien commune, Thanh Mien 2 commune became Bac Thanh Mien commune, Thanh Mien 3 commune became Hai Hung commune, Thanh Mien 4 commune became Nguyen Luong Bang commune, and Thanh Mien 5 commune became Nam Thanh Mien commune.
Compared to the previous plan, Nguyen Luong Bang commune will include Doan Tung, Thanh Tung, and Nhan Quyen communes (Binh Giang district), with one commune, Co Bi (also in Binh Giang district), removed. Other units remain unchanged.
The new commune names are based on the geographical location and the historical formation and development of Thanh Mien district. In addition, they are associated with several historical figures who were native sons and daughters of the region and made significant contributions to the country.
Thanh Mien is understood to mean a peaceful land with hardworking, diligent, and industrious people. Retaining the name Thanh Mien aims to express pride in the long-standing historical traditions of this region.
The commune of Nguyen Luong Bang is named after the late Vice President Nguyen Luong Bang, a native of Dong village, Thanh Tung commune. He was a staunch revolutionary activist and an outstanding disciple of President Ho Chi Minh . Naming the commune Nguyen Luong Bang aims to continue preserving historical values and fostering patriotism and national spirit in future generations.
Hai Hung commune was established by merging Doan Ket, Tan Trao, and Ngo Quyen communes. These are localities bordering Hung Yen province. The name Hai Hung was chosen to commemorate the period when Hai Duong and Hung Yen provinces merged, symbolizing unity and development.
Previously, the proposed arrangement of commune-level administrative units in Thanh Mien district received widespread agreement from voters, including: Thanh Mien 1, Thanh Mien 2, Thanh Mien 3, Thanh Mien 4, and Thanh Mien 5.
