According to Box Office Vietnam, as of 10:05 a.m. on September 1, the movie "Red Rain" had a revenue of 358.4 billion VND, surpassing Tran Thanh's The Four Guardians (332 billion VND) to become the Vietnamese movie with the highest revenue in 2025.
“Red Rain” - a film produced by the People's Army Cinema with a duration of 124 minutes |
Previously, over the past 3 weekends, many audiences were unable to book tickets to see “Red Rain” because all screenings were fully booked.
On August 31 alone, “Red Rain” also became the movie with the highest one-day revenue in the history of the Vietnamese box office with 45.8 billion VND.
Thus, “Red Rain” has officially entered the top 5 highest-grossing Vietnamese films of all time. Currently, the revenue of “Red Rain” is only behind “Mai” (551 billion VND), “Lat Mat 7” (483 billion VND), “Nha Ba Nu” (475 billion VND) and “Bo Gia” (427 billion VND).
However, “Red Rain” is expected to continue to set records during the 2-day holiday on September 1 and 2. Some say that the film could surpass Tran Thanh’s “Mai” to become the highest-grossing film of all time.
“Red Rain” is set in the Quang Tri Citadel in 1972. The film not only recreates 81 days and nights of fierce war but also deeply depicts the fate, humanity and ideals of a generation of Vietnamese youth during wartime.
The film opens with the sound of bombs and images of young soldiers leaving their hometowns to defend the citadel. From different hometowns, they met each other in the midst of gunfire, became sworn brothers, fought together, and shared every drop of water and every piece of dry food.
Unlike the dry narrative of traditional war films, “Red Rain” delves into the inner lives of its characters. Each soldier is not a perfect symbol, but a very young man whose eyes are still full of dreams.
They have lovers waiting for them in the countryside, old mothers, dreams of becoming teachers or engineers, some are only 17 years old and have never held a gun. But amidst the fire and bullets, they mature, become brave and sacrifice for a great ideal.
The special point is that the film does not focus on winning or losing, but focuses on the silent sacrifice. The blood shed is not meaningless, it is the price of independence and unity today.
