Kite 2025 - is there still wind to fly high?

Unlike many previous seasons, when domestic cinema was always “inferior” to the appearance of foreign blockbusters, at this time, Vietnamese films continuously reached new heights with “huge” revenue. But ironically, when Vietnamese cinema was flying high, the award considered the symbol of the industry - the Kite Award, was struggling amid countless difficulties.

In recent times, the public has easily noticed the strong transformation of Vietnamese cinema with a series of works that have been invested in systematically, achieving both artistic and commercial quality. Particularly in the feature film category, the "race" to win the Golden Kite Award this year is expected to be a thrilling competition between many "heavyweight" opponents, including: Red Rain, Detective Kien: Headless Case, The Four Guardians, Death Battle in the Sky, Flip Side 8: The Sun's Arms, Tunnel: The Sun in the Dark...

However, in contrast to the vibrant film market, the Kite Awards, which honor the efforts of filmmakers, are at risk of not being able to properly organize. The Vietnam Cinema Association has just admitted that the restructuring of the organization and lack of funding means that this year's awards ceremony may have to "depend on actual conditions." A phrase that sounds administrative, but is very unstable, perhaps "unprecedented" for a prestigious professional award in the country.

Furthermore, the announcement of the Cinema Association also clearly stated that there is a possibility that the winner will not receive a prize money, which is probably a rare case for a national award. The prize money, in terms of material, of course cannot be compared to the capital invested in production, the effort and dedication of the filmmakers...

But as the proverb says "A hundred dollars in wages are not worth one dollar in bonus", the award with bonus is an honor, pride, recognition and worthy reward for those who are dedicated to their profession.

Vietnamese cinema is proving its strong vitality, but the “supports” such as the Kite Awards are slowing down. A cinema industry cannot “fly” by box office revenue alone, but also needs professional and spiritual recognition.

The Kite Award is not just a ceremony, but a cultural symbol, a place to honor the creative values ​​and aspirations of Vietnamese artists. For the Kite Award 2025 to take off, of course, funding is needed, but what is needed even more is the leadership of a team of people with enough heart and ability. It can only truly “take off” when it is fueled by the wind of belief, responsibility and love for the country’s art.
