The intersection of generations of musicians

The Grand Concert Hall - Vietnam National Academy of Music on the evening of December 5, 2025 became the meeting place of a special meeting: Vietnamese and international artists stood on the same stage, young artists performed alongside experienced artists, to tell the musical story with "five slices of history" from Classical, Romantic to Post-Romantic.

The Vietnam National Academy of Music Youth Symphony Orchestra (VNAMYO), representing the young generation of emerging artists, and the Sun Symphony Orchestra (SSO), bringing together professional Vietnamese and international artists, blended naturally under the guidance of French conductor Olivier Ochanine. The combination not only created a special night, but also showed how classical music can become a bridge between generations and cultures.

The night opened with The Magic Flute, taking the audience back to the Classical period of the 18th century. Before the silence had even settled, Zigeunerweisen, Karelia Suite and Carmen Suite No. 1 exploded, evoking the passionate Romantic spirit of the 19th century. Closing the journey was the profound lyricism of Piano Concerto No. 2, taking the audience into the world of the Post-Romantic period of the 20th century.

The highlight of the night was the solo performance by young violinist Do Phuong Nhi, who won first prize at the Sparre Olsen competition in Norway, and pianist Pham Ngoc Giang, winner of many international awards in Malta and Russia. The two artists' playing created distinct emotional colors, connecting the story throughout the program.

Over the years, the performance, exchange and training of the young generation have received the support of many organizations, among which ROX Group is one of the units that persistently supports academic art projects in Vietnam. In nearly three decades of development, ROX Group has continuously created beneficial values, bringing good values to customers, the community and society.

That creative spirit is also expressed in the desire to nurture community aesthetics, expand access to art and encourage creativity of the young generation. By accompanying Shared Horizons , ROX Group contributes to bringing audiences a sophisticated academic art experience, contributing to enriching the cultural life of society and spreading humanistic values to the community.

The mark of audio storytellers

Conductor Olivier Ochanine, winner of the Antal Dorati International Conducting Competition and many other prestigious awards, was the soul of the night. With his emotional conducting style, he guided the two orchestras through each musical story, maintaining overall stability while creating space for young artists to shine.

Sharing about the program on his personal Facebook, he wrote: “This project gives me a lot of hope and inspiration. The young artists are passionate, flexible and talented, making us believe that this is not the end, but the beginning of a new chapter. I firmly believe that Hanoi and Vietnam have a bright future for classical music and orchestras and that journey has truly begun. We hope that the younger generation will also be inspired by music projects like this.”

The moment of intersection between young artists and international artists.

More than just a concert, the event also reflects the Vietnam National Academy of Music’s persistent efforts in training a new generation of artists through VNAMYO activities. From regular rehearsals to stepping onto an international stage, young artists have the opportunity to experience a professional performance environment to grow and develop their love for music.

In Vietnam, SSO also plays an important role in expanding the classical music scene, bringing access to high-quality art to a wide audience. This collaboration with VNAMYO is a testament to a new approach: creating a series of activities where young artists are directly inspired by their predecessors.

When young and experienced artists stand on the same stage, they have written a new chapter in the journey of preserving and spreading the value of classical music in Vietnam. And it is these moments of intersection that will continue to inspire each generation to contribute a sound to the symphony of the future.
