An Giang - During the flood season, the Tra Su Melaleuca forest seems to put on a new coat, transforming into a "green paradise" of the Long Xuyen Quadrangle region.
On our journey to explore the beauty of the flood season in the Mekong Delta, we continued our trip to Tra Su Melaleuca Forest (Tinh Bien, An Giang province) - a wetland area considered a "green paradise" of the Long Xuyen Quadrangle. During this season, the abundance of fertile alluvial soil, deposited by the rising and falling water levels, nourishes the rapidly growing carpets of water hyacinth that stretch across the water's surface. There are two types of vehicles for exploring the "wetland world " of Tra Su: motorboats and rowboats. During the flood season, the melaleuca trees also bloom more profusely, as if to contribute to the beauty of the landscape, adding a touch of charm that lingers in the minds of visitors. White storks stroll across the green carpet. This area is home to 22 species of reptiles, 11 species of mammals, 23 species of aquatic animals, and 140 species of plants belonging to 52 families and 102 genera, including nearly 80 species of medicinal plants. Inside the Tra Su Melaleuca Forest during the flood season, the ferns are also lush and green. The wild vegetable known as "cây choại" is a delicious and medicinal herb, often referred to as a miracle cure in the Mekong Delta. At this time, the management is increasing the number of local staff who are knowledgeable about each type of plant, animal, and bird to regularly care for and beautify the landscape along the tourist routes. “During the flood season, the Tra Su Melaleuca forest is covered in a smooth, deep green cloak. Every day, we clean up the waterways and create habitats for birds to come and live,” said Mr. Mai Van Hoan, an employee. With the opening of trails under the forest canopy, Tra Su Melaleuca Forest welcomes hundreds of visitors every day, giving tourists the feeling of walking through a waterway. Ms. Truong Thi Van, a tourist from Ho Chi Minh City, said: “The most impressive thing was the peaceful atmosphere in the forest, the pristine scenery, like going back to the pre-reclamation period of Southern Vietnam that I had only seen in books. I am very satisfied with this trip.” Here, visitors can also play with very friendly pigeons. The meal was filled with unique specialties from the flooded areas of the Mekong Delta, such as linh fish, water lilies, and wild sunflowers...
The Tra Su Melaleuca Forest, covering 845 hectares, stretches across two communes, primarily Vinh Trung and Van Giao in Tinh Bien town, and a part of O Long Vy commune in Chau Phu district (An Giang province). This area is the heart of the Long Xuyen Quadrangle, encompassing An Giang, Kien Giang, and part of Can Tho. The four vertices of this quadrilateral correspond to four cities: Long Xuyen, Chau Doc (An Giang), Rach Gia, and Ha Tien (Kien Giang).
