According to Al Jazeera, in a post on the X network late on November 1, Minister Hegseth said the attack was carried out on the orders of US President Donald Trump, targeting a ship "involved in illegal drug trafficking".
"Three narco-terrorists on board were killed in the attack carried out in international waters," Mr. Hegseth said.

Earlier this week, the US conducted another airstrike on a suspected drug vessel on October 29, killing four people, and attacks on October 27 eliminated 14 "narco-terrorists".
The US operation, which began in September and is said to be aimed at suppressing drug trafficking, has so far killed more than 62 people, including Venezuelan and Colombian citizens, and destroyed 14 boats and a semi-submersible.
The attacks come as the US military is beefing up its presence in the Caribbean, including guided-missile destroyers, F-35 fighter jets, nuclear submarines and thousands of service members.
The Trump administration has ordered the Ford aircraft carrier strike group to the region and is expected to head to the Caribbean in the coming weeks.
