On November 1, in Hanoi , leaders and experts representing a number of central ministries, sectors, businesses and research groups participated in the fourth Vietnam Economic Pulse Forum (VEP) and discussed Vietnam's strategic and policy adjustments in the context of rapidly changing global economy and technology along with the increasing impacts of climate change.

The VEP Forum, co-organized by the Central Institute for Economic Management under the Ministry of Planning and Investment (CIEM-MPI) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has become an annual cooperation forum to analyze policy orientations in line with trends in sustainable technological and environmental development.

At the forum with the theme "Future Orientation: Adjusting Vietnam's economic development strategy and policies in the new international context", economists and business leaders shared insights and contributed ideas so that Vietnam can improve its technological capacity, attract investment and promote green economic transformation.

Key topics discussed at the forum include: Exploiting new trade environmental standards to enhance export competitiveness: Examining Vietnam’s position under the EU’s Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM) and the development of Vietnam-EU trade. The VEP Forum emphasizes a long-term vision to promote an inclusive, sustainable and shock-resilient economic framework, so that Vietnam can become a green technology and innovation powerhouse. With a forward-looking strategy, Vietnam can adapt and thrive in a rapidly changing global context.

In her opening remarks, UNDP Resident Representative Ramla Khalidi highlighted the importance of forward-looking policies. “The theme of this year’s Economic Pulse Forum reflects our commitment to proactive, forward-looking strategies to build resilience and capitalize on emerging opportunities,” said UNDP Resident Representative Ramla Khalidi. “In an effort to overcome challenging times with increasing political instability and the strong impacts of climate change, Viet Nam continues to demonstrate resilience. With economic strength, technological progress and climate resilience at the heart of its leadership, today’s discussion helps to shed light on strategic options that Viet Nam can consider towards building a sustainable and highly competitive future.”

Sharing the same view with UNDP Resident Representative, Ms. Tran Thi Hong Minh, Director General of the Central Institute for Economic Management under the Ministry of Planning and Investment, said: “Today’s forum strongly demonstrates our commitment to promoting sustainable, inclusive and resilient economic development for Viet Nam. As we navigate an increasingly complex global context marked by geopolitical upheavals and environmental challenges, the VEP forum helps us collectively analyze and build a roadmap towards the future, making Viet Nam a leader in green technology, innovation and sustainable development."

Initiated in 2021 by the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Vietnam Economic Pulse Forum is an annual event that aims to bring together the minds of policymakers, academics and entrepreneurs to discuss current economic issues, and share perspectives on emerging trends in business and economics, especially those related to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. Participants benefit from exposure to in-depth analysis and the opportunity to exchange ideas with experts from various fields.

Each VEP forum focuses on a specific topic that is increasingly important for sustainable economic development in Vietnam. Research papers are presented by national and international experts around this topic, followed by a panel discussion with the participation of policy makers, international experts and investors.
