Should update biometrics early, avoid overload at the end of the year

According to the State Bank's regulations on opening and using payment accounts at payment service providers, from January 1, 2025, account holders must update their biometrics to be allowed to transact or pay online.

According to statistics from Viettel Money digital payment service, there are still many customers who have not updated their biometric information as required by law. Delaying until the last minute can cause overload during the implementation process.

It is even possible that users may forget to add biometric information and not be allowed to make online payments after December 31, 2025.

Encourage customers to update early

Viettel Money said it has been updating biometrics on its mobile application to improve security and ensure a transparent and safe digital transaction environment for users. Customers can choose to update biometrics at hundreds of thousands of Viettel transaction points nationwide with direct support from Viettel staff or on the Viettel Money application.

By simply preparing a chip-embedded citizen ID card and a few simple operations on the phone, customers can quickly complete biometric updates, helping to increase account security in future transactions.

To update biometric information on the Viettel Money application, users need to prepare a citizen ID card with a chip and follow these simple steps: (1) - Take a photo of both sides of the citizen ID card with a chip; (2) - Scan the chip on the citizen ID card on a phone with NFC to connect information; (3) - Take a photo of the face for authentication.

According to Viettel Money representative, to help customers who have not yet updated their biometric information, this platform will have measures to recommend customers to add facial recognition when making some online transactions including: first transaction via Viettel Money application; switching devices using Viettel Money application; money transfer transactions with a value of over 10 million VND/transaction or over 20 million/day (after the transaction is successfully authenticated by biometrics, the limit will automatically accumulate back to 0); payment transactions with a value of up to 100 million VND and under 1.5 billion VND/day.

Security for accounts and transactions

Viettel representative said that this new form of transaction authentication is applied and widely communicated to all customers using Viettel Money application. This is also an important step in enhancing the security of online transaction accounts and ensuring transaction safety.

In addition, with the commitment to always put user safety first, Viettel Money not only applies biometrics but also strives to apply optimal information security technology, achieving international standard certifications such as: ISO 27001:2013 certification on information security management system, risk identification and establishment of comprehensive information protection process; PCI DSS international security certificate version 3.2.1, level 2 on payment card data security...

According to experts, the current use of passwords for authentication is no longer sufficient to meet customers' security needs when making online transactions.

Especially in the context of increasing fraud with increasingly sophisticated levels, biometric updates will give users peace of mind and a high level of security when making transactions such as transferring/depositing/withdrawing money and making online payments.

Beware of impersonation tricks

Near the end of the year, Viettel Money said that many people may continue to take advantage of biometric data update support to impersonate bank employees, impersonate officials of functional agencies... to trick users into clicking on malicious links, revealing personal information to appropriate assets.

Therefore, Viettel recommends that users absolutely do not provide personal information such as: ID card number, phone number, login password, OTP code... to anyone, including those claiming to be police officers, Viettel employees, or government agencies.

Users should also not access strange links via chat/email/phone to download and install biometric applications on their phones. In particular, users should absolutely not update biometrics via any other website or application. Viettel Money only requires biometric information to be collected via the Viettel Money app.
