Russia's Defense Ministry said its units had captured Ptyche, about 21 km (13 miles) southeast of Ukraine's key logistics hub of Pokrovsk, and were "continuing to advance deep into enemy defenses."
The ministry said Russia had also captured Vyimka, another settlement in the Donetsk region.
Meanwhile, Ukraine's top commander, Oleksandr Syrskyi, said the situation was "difficult" around Russia's main attack line in eastern Ukraine, but all necessary decisions had been made.
Russia is now stepping up its offensive in the Donetsk region while trying to repel a surprise Ukrainian offensive into western Russia on August 6.
In the early morning of September 1, the Ukrainian Air Force reported shooting down eight Russian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) attacking five provinces of Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian military, Russia carried out airstrikes on grain warehouses and logistics of the Ukrainian agricultural sector, most concentrated in the agricultural provinces of Nikolaev and Sumy.
Information from the Army said that Russia launched Iskander-M ballistic missiles from Kursk province and 11 Shahed-131/136 UAVs from Chauda cape in Crimea. Of which, Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 5 UAVs in Odessa, Nikolaev, Kherson, Kirovograd and Dnepropetrovsk provinces.
