Over the past 80 years, culture and art have accompanied the nation, creating a source of nourishment for the soul, strength, spirit and will of Vietnam. Music accompanies the nation

According to Associate Professor, Doctor, musician Do Hong Quan, Chairman of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations , Vietnam's new music has a history of over 90 years, since the appearance of the first song - march "Cung nhau di hong binh" by musician Dinh Nhu (1930).

Up to now, there have been thousands of musical works from songs, choruses, plays, and instrumental music composed during the two resistance wars against French colonialism and American imperialism; especially after the country's reunification in 1975, during the period of renovation to build and defend the Fatherland.

There are songs born in association with important historical events such as the song "August 19" by musician Xuan Oanh, "Liberation of Dien Bien " by musician Do Nhuan, "Marching to Hanoi" by musician Van Cao, "Marching to Saigon" by musician Luu Huu Phuoc (aka Huynh Minh Sieng), "As if there were Uncle Ho in the great victory day" by musician Pham Tuyen, "The country is full of joy" by musician Hoang Ha...

The names of famous musicians associated with Vietnam's revolutionary music such as Van Cao, Luu Huu Phuoc, Nguyen Van Ty, Do Nhuan, Phan Huynh Dieu, Tran Hoan, Hoang Hiep, Pham Minh Tuan, Thuan Yen, Huy Thuc, Tran Long An, Huy Du, Hoang Viet, Hoang Van, Vu Trong Hoi, Xuan Hong, Doan Nho, Tran Chung, Xuan Giao, Xuan Khoat, Hoang Ha, Xuan Oanh, Pham Tuyen..., the musical works composed by these musicians contributed to encouraging the spirit of the army and people in the struggles for national liberation, defending the Fatherland, nurturing patriotism, and educating the young generation about the heroic history of the nation.

After the country was unified, Vietnamese music continued the traditions of previous generations, while at the same time selectively absorbing the quintessence of world music.

From folk music, academic music to popular music (Pop, Rock)... all have developed remarkably, creating a modern folk music, suitable for the new development of musical life.

Some famous musicians include Trinh Cong Son, Diep Minh Tuyen, Thanh Tung, Ton That Lap, Nguyen Dinh Bang, Nguyen Cuong, Tran Tien, Duong Thu, Truong Ngoc Ninh, Pho Duc Phuong, An Thuyen, Do Hong Quan, Trong Dai, Tu Huy, Ngoc Khue, Duc Trinh, Van Thanh Nho, Phu Quang, Nguyen Trong Tao...

The 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2 this year is an opportunity for the entire Vietnamese people to look back on the journey of preserving independence, freedom and striving for development.

Throughout this process, music has always played the role of a spiritual bridge, connecting and spreading noble values, becoming the focus of the community.

From newly released songs, impressive MVs to grand, vibrant music concerts with timeless musical works... all express love for the Fatherland and national pride, contributing to preserving and promoting national history, while enhancing Vietnamese cultural values ​​in the international arena.

Some notable songs include “Continuing the story of peace” by Nguyen Van Chung, “The road to the front” by Phung Tien Minh, “My house has a flag hanging” by the group DTAP… along with a series of MVs and music projects released by artists to the public during this time, such as the Made in Vietnam project by the group DTAP…

Festival to honor Vietnamese music

According to the President of the Vietnam Musicians Association, Nguyen Duc Trinh, music has always been an indispensable part of people's spiritual life. Music can share with us many things, from the difficulties in life, to arousing love for the homeland, country, national pride...

Music is also an invisible thread connecting love between people, between nations in the world, helping people get closer together, eliminating geographical, socio-political barriers, and language barriers to integrate. The language of music is a common language that all generations and all nations can understand...

In order to honor Vietnamese music, honor the creative careers of musicians and musical works, as well as organize meaningful musical activities to serve the public, contribute to participating in and building and developing advanced Vietnamese music with strong national identity, the Vietnamese Government has decided to take September 3rd of each year as Vietnamese Music Day.

The birth of Vietnam Music Day originated from the historical event when Uncle Ho conducted the orchestra, choir and the people of the capital to sing the song "Solidarity", celebrating the 15th anniversary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and the 3rd Party Congress, at the Botanical Garden (Hanoi) on September 3, 1960.

That momentous event was captured in the artistic photo “Uncle Ho leads the way with the Song of Solidarity” by Artist Lam Hong Long, a photojournalist of the Vietnam News Agency. The photo was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts.

On September 26, 2014, the Prime Minister issued Decision No. 1722/QD-TTg to designate September 3 every year as Vietnam Music Day, in order to encourage artists and writers in the music field to promote the traditional and revolutionary values ​​of Vietnamese music, strive to create many good works, many meaningful musical activities to serve the public, contribute to educating the young generation, encourage and motivate the whole people to unite and strive for the cause of building and defending the Fatherland; attract the attention of organizations, individuals and people of all walks of life to actively participate in building and developing advanced Vietnamese music, imbued with national identity...

Although the Government only officially decided on Vietnam Music Day in 2014, since September 3, 2010, the Vietnam Musicians Association has organized Vietnam Music Day for the first time in Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and many provinces and cities across the country.

Since then, Vietnam Music Day has gone through 15 music festivals with exciting art programs and music activities taking place across the country, contributing to honoring the contributions of musicians and artists, promoting the traditional and revolutionary values ​​of Vietnamese music, educating the young generation, and creating a rich and healthy spiritual life for the public.

Vietnam Music Day 2025 is associated with the 80th anniversary of the successful August Revolution and National Day September 2, the Vietnam Musicians Association organized a music program with the theme "Melody of the Fatherland", taking place on the evening of September 3 at the Hanoi Opera House.

In provinces and cities, many art programs celebrating the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day September 2, welcoming Vietnam Music Day were solemnly and meaningfully organized by localities.

A representative of the Vietnam Musicians Association said that more than a decade since the birth of Vietnam Music Day has been a decade of pride for Vietnamese musicians and artists with important milestones.

In recent years, music festivals with art programs and musical activities have taken place enthusiastically across the country.

That affirms the importance of Vietnamese music in the revolutionary cause as well as in life; contributes to honoring the contributions of musicians and artists, promoting the traditional and revolutionary values ​​of Vietnamese music, educating the young generation and creating a rich and healthy spiritual life for the public./.
