(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of April 30, the Traffic Police Department said that on the first day of the April 30-May 1 holiday, there were 42 traffic accidents nationwide, killing 14 people and injuring 38. Compared to the first day of this holiday in 2024, there were 42 fewer accidents, 21 fewer deaths, and 27 fewer injuries.

During the day, the traffic police handled 8,706 cases of traffic order and safety violations; temporarily detained 43 cars, 1,883 motorbikes, and 125 other vehicles; revoked 368 driving licenses of all kinds; of which 1,482 cases were alcohol violations, 2,437 speed violations; 71 cases were overloaded; 42 cases were oversized; and 5 cases tested positive for drugs.

Regarding the traffic congestion situation in Hanoi and neighboring localities, the Traffic Police Department said that from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on April 29, at the gateways and expressways such as Phap Van - Cau Gie; Giai Phong, Giap Bat, National Highway 1, Ring Road 3; Noi Bai, the Hanoi - Thai Nguyen, Hanoi - Lao Cai expressways..., the traffic volume increased dramatically and moved slowly. Traffic police controlled traffic, divided traffic flows, and were ready to resolve traffic congestion.

In Ho Chi Minh City and neighboring localities, people participated in the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South, causing heavy traffic in the Rach Mieu Bridge area, moving slowly. Local traffic police forces regulated and separated traffic to avoid traffic jams.
