After several days of sheltering from heavy rain, on the afternoon of November 2nd, the Cam Nhuong fishing port (Cam Xuyen district) was bustling with boats again. Fishermen were busily preparing for upcoming long voyages at sea, hoping to catch a large quantity of economically valuable seafood.

Mr. Nguyen Van Tuan (Xuan Bac village, Cam Nhuong commune) said: “Our boat has been docked for six days now. Luckily, the recent floods didn't cause any damage. Now, taking advantage of the favorable weather after the floods, we have prepared fishing gear and fuel, ready for our first fishing trip of the month. According to forecasts, there will be many more storms from now until the end of the year, so we have to take advantage of going out to sea to earn more income.”

According to Mr. Tuan, based on his years of experience at sea, after storms, it's often easier to catch a lot of shrimp and fish than on normal days, so everyone is eager to go out to sea, hoping for trips full of "bounty from the sea" and especially for high prices so that the fishermen can have more income.

Going out to sea after a storm often helps fishermen catch more valuable seafood.

According to Nguyen Van Hung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Cam Nhuong commune: "Taking advantage of the calm seas after the floods, many fishermen have gone out to sea for the past two days to search for seafood. Based on observations, these fishing trips mainly yielded shrimp, crabs, and mackerel...; some boats were lucky enough to catch tuna and yellowfin tuna, earning about 2-5 million VND per boat. Currently, nearly 150 boats are out at sea, and the seafood resources will be more abundant in the coming days."

At Cua Sot fishing port (Loc Ha), the atmosphere is busier and more urgent than ever. Fishermen are all busy preparing food, fuel, and fishing gear in preparation for heading out to sea. Many fishermen said that after a storm, it's easier to find schools of shrimp and fish than usual, so as soon as the sun comes out, they rush to set off.

Fisherman Hoang Van Viet (Son Bang village, Thach Kim commune) excitedly said: “The weather has stabilized again, and all the fishermen are eager to go out to sea. The lives of fishermen are closely tied to the sea and their boats. Going out to sea and staying close to the sea not only brings income to the family but also brings joy to those who follow the profession of the sea. This time, my boat plans to be out for 4 days.”

All the fishermen hope for calm seas and favorable weather conditions so they can go out to sea with smooth sailing.

While busily preparing his fishing gear, fisherman Le Van Dan (Nam Son village, Thinh Loc commune) said: "October brought heavy rain and constantly rough seas, so we couldn't go out to sea much, and our income decreased as a result. Now that the weather is sunny and the sea is calm, we have to take advantage of the opportunity to go out to sea. This trip, I and five fellow fishermen plan to spend about five days fishing in the waters about 40 nautical miles from shore... We are all hoping for a safe and successful trip, catching plenty of fish and shrimp.”

Fishermen prepare essential supplies for a long fishing trip.

Mr. Than Quoc Te, Deputy Director of the Ha Tinh Fisheries Port and Wharf Management Board, said: “After many days of anchoring and sheltering at Cua Sot fishing port, all boats, from small to large, have gone out to sea to exploit marine resources. Accordingly, from November 1st to the present, more than 100 boats have gone out to sea, and the number will increase in the coming days. Before allowing the boats to resume fishing operations, the unit inspected and reminded boat owners to reinforce and repair any damaged parts (if any) to ensure safety during fishing.”

According to Mr. Than Quoc Te, November is the peak month of the rainy and stormy season. Therefore, during their voyages, fishermen need to pay special attention to closely monitoring weather forecasts to take measures to prevent natural disasters. At the same time, when receiving forecasts of approaching monsoon winds, heavy rain, etc., they should quickly return to land to seek safe shelter.
