After the 2026 World Cup final draw on the morning of December 6, the International Football Federation (FIFA) is facing a wave of fierce criticism from fans.

Suspicion is focused on FIFA's apparent "favoritism" toward US President Donald Trump and creating favorable conditions for the host team.

The event at the Kennedy Center in Washington was controversial from the start. FIFA surprised everyone by announcing the FIFA Peace Award and the first recipient of this honor was US President Donald Trump.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who has a close relationship with Mr. Trump, personally presented the award and praised the US President for his "extraordinary actions in promoting peace."

While Mr. Trump called it "one of the greatest honors of his life" and claimed to have "saved millions of lives," FIFA did not reveal the voting process.

This lack of transparency, coupled with Mr Trump's controversial claims about his role in "ending wars" (as the Guardian points out, some conflicts still continue), has left fans even more skeptical about the prize's political motives.

In addition, the fact that Donald Trump's daughter, Ivanka Trump, was appointed to a $100 million education project (funded by World Cup tickets) was also criticized by public opinion as another clear evidence of FIFA's favoritism toward the President's family.

Priority for the US team at the 2026 World Cup?

The highlight of the event was the moment President Trump personally drew the lottery ticket with the name of the US team.

Although the host country's placement in its group was a pre-determined procedure, the subsequent results have raised questions in the global football community about "fixing".
